Re: wierd problem!

I had quite a struggle getting mine adjusted according to the specifications in the AMM. Most mechanics seem to think that the wheel gets stuck at that angle because its pivot is too tight, so they loosen it. On one occasion, I had it adjusted at Bristol in the UK before flying to Limoges in France,...

Re: wierd problem!

I've also suffered from this problem and it was fixed by tightening the nose wheel fork pivot nut. The AMM has this to say about it: The nose-wheel must just castor when you apply a force of 30-50 N (6.75 - 11.25 lb) acting in the direction of the nose wheel axle. If the cotter pin hole does not ali...

Re: KAP140 Altitude Hold Behavior

Thanks, Rich. The funny thing is that Alt Hold stays on after I select it again. It's only after levelling out that it switches off, with no error indicated. My annual is due in a couple of weeks, so I'll get it looked at then.

KAP140 Altitude Hold Behavior

To initiate a climb or descent, I set the required altitude and rate on the KAP140, and select Altitude Hold, if not already set. This works, in that my aircraft levels out at the correct altitude, and holds it, but in a recent flight in still air the Altitude Hold indicator consistently switched it...

More photos: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2041001/Angelina-Jolies-son-Maddox-accompanies-flying-lesson-iPad.html I had to laugh at this post on your link, by one of the Dail Wail's readers: "Clearly Angelina Jolie is consumed with her responsibility as a mother to 6 children un...

Angelina Jolie trusts her son to a DA42

I see the paparazzi were there to capture Angelina Jolie taking her son for a flying lesson at Blackbushe Airport, England: http://www.celebuzz.com/2011-09-23/angelina-jolie-and-maddox-take-flying-lessons-in-england-photos/ I thought it was interesting that she chose a DA42 for his first flight, alt...

Re: Forced landing question

3.7.5 EMERGENCY EXIT In case of a roll-over of the airplane on ground, it can be evacuated through the rear door. For this purpose release the front hinge of the rear door. The function is displayed on a placard next to the hinge. Oops! That paragraph is missing from the AFM for the DA40-D. I'm sur...

Re: Forced landing question

Has anybody actually tried to break the canopy of a DA40 with a hammer? I would expect it to be tricky to do, as there are no obvious weak spots, nor a single pane that you can push, kick or lever out once you've opened up a crack. If I was going to try to do that, I'd certainly want to be wearing s...

Re: Forced landing question

Thanks for the link to that article, Lance. Instinctively, you might assume that the force of the air against a forward opening canopy would keep it closed, but the Bernoulli force must be strong over an object with those contours. I know we can latch ours partially open, but I wouldn't like to risk...
