Re: Borked the Wingtip - new strobes?
Perhaps a little closer to you, Glenn Lawler and his guys at Southtec Aviation at KRUQ do great composite repair work on Diamonds; there's a paint shop located on the field as well.

Re: Aircon DA42 VI
Yes, the manuals are way off in their performance predictions associated with air conditioning. I'm guessing this is because it doesn't get as hot in Wiener Neustadt, Austria and thus they don't need to use A/C very much.

Re: Aircon DA42 VI
If anything, my experience is that a DA42-VI with A/C might even be faster than one without A/C. My A/C-equipped DA42-VI is consistently about 4 knots faster in cruise than what's published in the AFM/POH. Why? With the weight of the A/C compressor behind the rear baggage compartment, the CG is furt...

Re: Aircon DA42 VI
Both DA42-VI Austro engines normally idle at 3% load with air conditioning OFF. With A/C ON, left engine (with 3rd alternator) idles at 5% load. So that seems to indicate A/C only contributes to a relatively insignificant 2% load on the engine. There used to be a prohibition on taking off with A/C O...

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
That is very disappointing and cools my interest in buying a brand new DA62. (Okay, my plan was always to wait until Dave was selling his to get his DA82.) Wait, you mean there's a "DA82" I should get instead of a DA62??! ;) (Currently awaiting FAA paperwork to take delivery of ...

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
These are the brakes that are now being used on the DA62. From the DA62 AMM: "The DA 62 has two main wheels and a nose wheel. All wheels have split hubs and tires with inner tubes. The main wheels are standard Cleveland components. The main wheels have brake disks and a Cleveland brake caliper...

Re: You are not going to believe this!
For the ELT decal, you do realize that your package had to clear US Customs coming from Canada, right? I suppose Diamond could have dropped the decal into a regular 1st class mail envelope, but I'm sure it would have cost more than .50 to send internationally. Diamond normally assumes people need th...

Re: Waypoint altitudes on MFD Flt Plan page
Tim: The step down altitudes for an IAP as displayed on the FPL page in the MFD should match what's on your approach charts. Perhaps your charts or your NavData file (loaded in the G1000) aren't current, and hence don't match. Otherwise there's a very small probability that Jepp/Garmin could have po...
