Re: iPad in DA40
Loving my ADS-B! Now I only wish the equipment wars would end - I'm using Garmin Pilot for flying and ForeFlight for flight planning and while thankfully FF gets GPS position from GDL39, it'd be nice for the WX and traffic to be shared too. I know, I know "dream on.." https://support.fore...

Re: landing gear lights
It's now possible to replace the incandescent bulbs with white LEDs: Here's the Diamond part number: 461K_02_2801_WS (Single-LED T4.6-28V/1mA white) Do these LED's dim as the incandescent bulbs do or do they maintain the bulbs brighter as some LED's do? Often I fly with the panel lights dimmed down...

Re: What are the implications of Da20 not IFR certified
I did most of my instrument training in my DA20 (except for about 8 hours or so in a rented 40 for G1000 experience). I bought the 20 the day after I got my PPL and flew it for about 9 months and about 100 hours at which time I traded it in for my DA40. The 20 was very economical to fly and I bought...

Re: Jeppesen Chartview to Flitecharts
Dave The Aux tanks are ok in the software now so Glenn must have fixed them after Premier missed that. The totalizer reset is correct for full fuel although I wish you could just total main tanks then press again for Aux tanks as I don't keep the Aux tanks topped up unless I'm going on a long trip. ...

Re: Jeppesen Chartview to Flitecharts
It turns out they have to reload the entire software in order to remove the Jeppesen function. The avionics tech at Columbia stated it could be a 3 hour process if it goes well to at worst a longer process that he has seen LRU's fail when reloading the software and the LRU has to be sent back to Gar...

Re: DA42 Cold Weather Operations
Phil BTW, as the pilot who ferried your plane from steamy Houston to North Carolina with a fuel stop in Alabama this summer, I can attest that your air conditioning works very nicely. :) Dave I was really on the fence about this plane versus another 2.0 with 200 less hours, no SVT, no vortex genera...

Re: G1000 checklists
The DA42 software and DA40 software are different versions. When I went to non-WAAS 40 (with no checklists) to a non-WAAS 42 (both had the latest software versions) I gained the checklist back in the 42 but list the ability to track my flights using data logging. All other features seem to be the sa...

Re: Jeppesen Chartview to Flitecharts
I'm having Columbia Air Services in Bar Harbor look at it tomorrow as I'm up here for work anyway. If it's a few hundred dollars to get back I figure I'm still saving as to get both US and a Canada Jepp chart subscription it's $900 per year more than the Garmin charts going forward so I'm still ahead.

Dave
Great points- thank you. I never thought about how the heat actually gets to the cabin. Makes sense now. I have been used to getting heat from our muffler in the 40.

CO detector - needed in a 42?
My 42 did not have a CO detector installed (either panel or simple card). I had a portable very sensitive unit in my 40 but I'm assuming that with engines outboard you don't need one on the 42 unless the heat or defrost is on. What are you guys using?
