Re: Savvy Analysis: new data log parameters

I'll have to try using the Savvy site for uploading data logs. I've been using Cirrus Reports for years, ever since I was flying our DA40 -- they read all of the DA40 G1000 parameters properly. But last time I checked they didn't properly read 2 engines of a DA42, so I've had to pretend to be a Cess...

Re: Plane ownership and ancillary questions

For insurance, AVEMCO quoted us a ridiculous $17K/year :scream: to insure our DA42-VI. So please don't depend on them to get an idea of what insurance will cost. Instead, use an independent insurance agent who can shop your policy to multiple underwriters; our premium on a relatively-high hull value...

Re: Left Engine Running 10 degrees warmer

Not sure about Thielert/Continental engines but Austro Engine Wizard collects gearbox/oil/coolant temps that you can load into the program and graph.

Re: Garmin Service Advisory 1372 Rev B G1000 RNAV approaches

Some good news for DA42NG and DA42-VI owners (only :( ). Diamond/Garmin just came out with G1000 software release 010-00670-13 for our planes, which includes GDU Version 15.11. (See Diamond MSB 42NG-003/18.) With GDU Version 15, this fixes the Garmin Service Advisory 1372 issue with LP approaches no...

Re: New Plane

Agreed that the DA40 LRU rack is much easier to access than the DA42. I'm guessing that the DA42 G1000 equipment rack is contained within an "armored" metal box for EMI (electro-magnetic interference) issues, caused either by operation within a carbon fiber fuselage (instead of the DA40's ...

Re: worth upgrading to 321.23 ?

I'm sure that you will be able to install the version of the GTX345R without WAAS in DA40s that already have a WAAS position source (i.e., GIA 63W units), but (as with Cessna 172s/182s) this will require a G1000 software upgrade. Since Diamond Canada has already committed to making the GTX345R stand...

Re: What's the width of your hangar opening?

Well gosh, Dave - you could easily fit a new DA62 in there - what are you waiting for ? :D Ahh, if only having a big enough hangar were all it took to get a DA62...(see I'm trying to keep this thread on track talking about hangars.) It's hard to justify a DA62 when our DA42-VI has identical perform...

Re: Garmin Service Advisory 1372 Rev B G1000 RNAV approaches

Tom: First of all you've got a really old release of the G1000 software in your DA40 and should consider having it updated (the latest release is .23 if you have WAAS, .22 otherwise) to get the latest features. G1000 software from Garmin is free, so all you'll have to pay for is a couple hours of Ga...

Re: What's the width of your hangar opening?

We got really lucky with hangars a few years ago. We were way down the local airport (KJYO) hangar waitlist for our DA40 (about #20 on the list), and then the 2008-2009 recession hit. Due to aircraft foreclosures, people deciding they could no longer afford a hangar, and the town building a few more...

Re: New Plane

The fuel card thing was so surprising I wrote a blog entry about it (and have since gotten the Corporate Air Assoc. or whatever it is, which seems the best deal so far. Colin: How do you qualify with CAA without flying a required turbine aircraft? Do you really expect to save more than the $600/yea...
