Given the fact that the airport where I have my DA40 parked is a 40 minute ride away, I wanted to have something in front of my doorstep where I could spontaneously grab a plane and get airborne. Yes, the MTOW of the NG is actually quoted as being better than the TDI by 250 lbs, but the useful load seems worse, which I take to mean that the increased MTOW is not enough to offset the heavier engines. Chris, You summary of the situation is on the mark, with the exception that Diamond claims that the MTOW of the Austro-equipped plane is slightly better, say 50 lbs or so, rather than worse.
