Re: Oh, thank you master

Seems like the DA40NG higer gross weight airframe and an IO-390 would come close...

Not going to happen, unfortunately, given the love affair Diamond has with the Austro and the general disdain for anything requiring avgas 8)

Re: Aileron hinges

Interesting that the DA20-C1 uses bolts for the aileron and flap pivots, versus a clevis pin with cotter on the A1. From looking at the IPC for the DA40, it appears the 40 uses clevis pins as well. I don't have a 40 to go look at anymore, so I'm not sure which technique would work best. Krea Ellis D...

Re: Aileron hinges

Not sure that they are glued on a 40, but they are on the DA20-A1. Similar design, though.

Yes, the small locknut that you try to feed through the ridiculously small access hole is an exercise in frustration.

Re: Da-40 Rear tire size

First, make sure tires are inflated properly. Another possible issue is that the main wheel alignment is off. Dragging brake or bad bearing is also possible, but in my opinion, less likely.

Re: cockpit & intrument lights

If the C1 has only the basically useless dome mounted white and red lights (behind the pilot's head on the overhead) like the A1 - our cure was to install Whelen LED post lights around the instrument panel. If you also have VDO engine gauges like the A1, we installed VDO sockets with LED bulbs (the ...

Re: Aileron hinges

I've never removed the ailerons on a 40, but I believe the design is similar to the 20. The clevis pins are installed with a specific Loctite and although the AMM does not say so, a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun (carefully) helps to loosen the adhesive. It's not easy and tapping on the e...

Re: GAMA 2015 Report- Diamond Shipments

Can anybody explain to me why the U.S. Air Force Academy transitioned from DA40's to Chinese owned Cirrus SR20's for their flight familiarization program? Can't help but wonder if it was related to the level of support provided by Diamond. Certainly can't be flying qualities. If Diamond could make s...

Re: GAMA 2015 Report- Diamond Shipments

Diamonds issues rest solely with the CEO. Honestly I don't know much about their European operations, but in North America, it's time for the senior leadership to take a long hard look in the mirror and step aside for someone more capable. In 2007, when I purchased my DA40, it was a market leader w...

Re: DA20-A1 or DA-20C1 - What should I choose?

Welcome to the forum. I have never owned a C1, but have owned an A1 for about 10 years. My son (who has flown the A1 much more than me) thinks the A1 flies better and is more "fun" than the C1. I think you have covered most of the pros and cons, but let me add my perspective on the A1. The...

Had to replace mine - had a bad o-ring on the fuel cap which lead to some water in the tank which lead to pinhole corrosion by the drain valve
These are aluminum fuel tanks. Can they not be repaired?
