Earlier steam-gauge DA40s had only one OAT probe (on the copilot side). Apparently later ones have 2. I added one to my aircraft on the pilot's side for the density altitude function on my CO-553 carbon monoxide detector (see other thread).

Re: The next stuff
If you do so, you give up the TAS data (requires OAT), but this is not a problem since the cheaper Aspen E5 version of the Evolution series does not display this data. You could incorporate an OAT sensor... I added an extra one on the underside of the Pilot-side fuselage near the step when I instal...

Re: Doh!
There's a similar repetitive inspection (or replacement) of the DA40 nose gear strut required by AD for older year DA40s. True. We have done it 3-4 times. It is relatively easy, a dye penetrant examination. It can make a mess, though. If I recall correctly, there was a single failure in a DA 40 tha...

Re: Battery dead after accidentally leaving overhead lamp on
Arnaud: Glad you were able to get a replacement. I will have to try out my Google-fu on the Renault part. Is there a P/N listed for the Renault one? As far as the plastic boots, they were not original equipment on 2001 DA-40s like ours. They were added later to address pressurized air leaking throug...

Re: Autopilot/Electric Trim Circuit Breaker
There is a FAA SAFO regarding black and white collars as they can cause confusion about the CB status (SAFO 14006). I read that advisory, and I believe that it refers to using Ty-Wraps to make circuit breakers off/inoperative. Their explanation of why this could be bad is right-on. That is one reas...

Re: Autopilot/Electric Trim Circuit Breaker
I did the same thing on my aircraft. I had a runaway pitch trim in my first year of ownership. I was able to overpower using the stick, and disengaged the autopilot using the red disconnect button on the stick. Turned out to be a bad KC-140 box. Replaced under warranty...

Re: Fuel cap retainer
The screws are stainless flat head Phillips, but they don't have to be fully removed. Just completely loosen the one securing the ring terminal and partially loosen the ones on either side of that one. Clamp the Vise-Grip on the ring terminal, and pull the screw up enough to clear it. You don't have...

Re: 1,000-lb useful load? +BRS?
Notably the replacement of the KCS 55A with a G5 suite might move the empty CG back by about .1 inch. It depends on the single factor of whether the KG 102A is beneath the rear passenger seat, as stated in the AMM or is located in the front instrument panel as implied by the POH. It is definitely u...

Re: Fuel cap retainer
I've replaced mine a couple of times. I just clamp a needle-nosed vise grip pliers on the eyelet before removing the screw. I (luckily) haven't lost one yet... https://www.skygeek.com/ats-9ln.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_content=ats-9ln&utm_campaign=froogle&am...

Re: Headset question
I couldn't find any specs in the GMA340 manual relating to microphone input impedance. I do know that you can buy low and high impedance mics for the Bose headsets, so if it doesn't work as-is you wouldn't have to replace the entire headset, just the mic.
