Re: Just don't say it
I see what you mean. I always include in my passenger briefing the fact that the DA-40 is, by a large margin, the safest aircraft in GA. Then I move on unless they ask questions. I have taken a number of "nervous" flyers up with good results. I think that the outstanding visibility is a ma...

Re: Operating North of 72N
The map showing current WAAS LPV availability is here: http://www.nstb.tc.faa.gov/RT_VerticalProtectionLevel.htm There is a slight reduction in service in the Eastern Arctic, likely because it is further away from Alaska? After all, it is a US system and Eastern Arctic service is not a priority. Her...

Re: Fuel pump malfunction
Well, the delivery date for the recertified Weldon pump from Aircraft Spruce I ordered 10 days ago got pushed out to the end of next week, and the same delivery date applied to the regular stock pumps. So I bit the bullet. Diamond Canada (via Aviation Unlimited) shipped me one today direct UPS. Shou...

Re: Cirrus Jet reviewed...
I just looked at the performance specs on the Cirrus website. For rate of climb, it says "not yet published." I guess it's published now

Re: Flying to Chicago - advice please!
Thanks to all for the comments. I'm glad I asked - seems like PWK may not be the best idea, and this helps a great deal. We plan to clear customs and overnight in Fargo, ND, so 1C5 may be the best for us. Very excited to see Chicago and then, of course, AirVenture. Yes, "breathless reports"...

Flying to Chicago - advice please!
In a couple of weeks we're planning a trip to Chicago to see one of our daughters. Was planning to go into KPWK. Then, we're heading up to Osh for a couple of days at the beginning of Airventure before heading back. Very excited about the trip.
Any ideas, suggestions welcome!

Re: Max altitude in DA20-C1
The aircraft feels the same at the same indicated airspeed no matter what altitude is - KIAS is what the the airplanes "feels" if you will. The exception is compression effects as you approach the speed of sound. That's why jets use Mach numbers. The Do Not Exceed speed is measured in Mach...

Re: What Oil Do You Run?
Does it matter if you mix oils? Yes, it does. For instance, you cannot mix Phillips x/c with Aeroshell. Folks who know more than me can explain which oils are incompatible. This is one of the reasons I changed to Aeroshell 15W50, because it seems to be more common in Canada, and you don't need addi...

Re: Leanings effects on CHT
That's strange. I am no engine genius but I get 145TAS at 10.5 gph no problem ROP, and 130TAS at peak EGT with fuel flows around 7.5 gph. CHT's rarely above 380. How many hours on the engine, and are the cooling baffles intact?

Re: Fuel pump malfunction
I ordered a new Weldon pump - there was a recertified one Aircraft Spruce Canada for a slight discount. Does it make sense to rebuild the old one to use as a spare?
