Re: Future Pilot?

A couple of summers ago we went up to Jasper for a mountain vacation. There are always a gazillion tourists in Jasper in the summer but the airfield is quiet and out of the way. But when we came back to the plane to leave, a family of recent immigrants was at the airport. Amidst all that natural bea...

Re: Run up Oil Temperature

I look for 95 and climbing. In cold weather it requires a little extra time, plus I use the baffle. The oil is in the green by the time you take off.

Re: What Tug to Get

Don't buy this type, this is the one I have and it is very cumbersome and doesn't work very well. Airplane tugIMG_5526.jpg My hangar landlord has this tug, and I agree it does not work well unmodified. For my plane he modified it in his fabrication shop so we have two separate hub connection points...

Re: FAA “LADD” and ICAO aircraft code

I just emailed them and they are removing my aircraft from the blocked list.

I sometimes wonder who are the guardians of all these databases. Aldous Huxley was on to something 😂.

FAA “LADD” and ICAO aircraft code

I learned today that LADD is a database where owners can request that their flight data not be shared with services such as Flightaware. Somehow my aircraft (C-GXLO) got on this list (without my input and despite being Charlie registered) and now I can’t see my flights. My family uses Flightaware to...

Very interesting - I wonder if the “wealth effect” is cooling off after a rough month in the markets?

Re: Feeling overwhelmed with the DA40

Our brains need to automate basic processes before they can acquire more detailed information. I would encourage you to fly a lot, use other resources such as online videos, speaking to other pilots and participating in discussions here. Formal sessions with an instructor are a great way to take sto...

Re: To prime or not to prime

Fair enough, but not for me - engine witchcraft is part of the fun. When I was a boy car engines flooded all the time in cold weather. There was a certain pride in learning how to deal with it. You removed the air cleaner, and stuck a Bic pen in the carburetor to wedge the choke open. Then you crank...

Re: To prime or not to prime

There’s a funny line in a recent Paul Bertorelli video on AV Web something like “There’s a procedure to hot start the engine that works every time but nobody knows what is” :D Put me in that camp. I use the throttle max, then open a crack, start cranking and advance mixture until it catches techniqu...

Re: Crazy Pricing?

I just renewed my insurance which has a “stated value” clause. I provided a comparable from Controller and they were satisfied. The insurance market here is comparatively small though. Dollar for dollar, still cheaper than car insurance.
