Re: TO Indicator Light + Alternator

As far as the Flap Light is concerned, I would put my money that the micro-switch that sends the signal to the flap light indicator is failing. At the first sign of trouble, they work intermittently for awhile. Over the years, I have had to replace different flap micro-switches three times as this i...

Re: Flight schools with a DA40 fleet

One more thing, I'm trying to avoid busy airspace airports for my PPL at least. Lowering the training risk factor. I don't plane to fly commercial so this is really to prepare me for a purchase of a DA40NG down the line training in a safe aircraft and safe airport with minimal heavy jet traffic. Ac...

My Champion Thin Wire plugs need replacing.

I currently have Champion thin wire plugs with about 800 hobbs hours on them. Even though I lean aggressively when I taxi, I am now getting fouled plug(s) in the run up. I am thinking of replacing them with Tempest Thin Wire plugs. Wondering if anyone has pireps on the Tempest plugs. Also, what is t...

Re: Does anyone know who builds the OEM Diamond canopies?

The one good thing about scraping out hinge pieces is it doesn't matter if the surface is a little marked up, as long as it's good enough to get a good bond. I hit my areas with a bit of fine emery cloth before bonding. The Acrifix I used is fast UV-curing. I pulled the plane out where the sun woul...

Re: Does anyone know who builds the OEM Diamond canopies?

I talked with Andrew at the factory yesterday looking for some advice. He did verify that their canopy OEM supplier is Mecaplex out of Switzerland. His advice for removing the broken hinge was apply heat to the base of the hinge with a hair dryer, not a high powered heat gun. Then use a plastic scra...

Re: Does anyone know who builds the OEM Diamond canopies?

Removing old pieces still glued to the canopy is probably a real bummer. But a few years back one of my hinges came unglued cleanly. Using the extra-special glue they use (Acrifix 0192), gluing it back in place was easy. It's been holding ever since. On my first 2003 DA 40, one of the window hinges...

Does anyone know who builds the OEM Diamond canopies?

The small plastic hinge on one of my side windows has cracked into small pieces and the window is now in-op on my 2010 DA40 XLS. After close inspection of the other hinges, I noticed small fractures in the hinges and they appear that they will fail also sometime in the near future. Since the hinges ...

Re: Glide Ratio

This has always been very confusing for me as well as I too could find no info in the manual. I was told by someone that any pitch change of the prop utilizes the centrifugal force of the prop spinning. If that is true and correct, with an engine out scenario and perhaps the loss of the windmill of ...
