Re: Descent power and rates
Oh, and I descend at 300fpm most of the time, especially if I am above 7,500 ft, 74% power.

Re: Descent power and rates
I took a ride in an old Twin Bonanza. It had geared engines. On descent we had in 40% power and the pilot talked about how in that plane you could *never* let the propellers drive the engines because it would chew up the gears. Sometimes about the backside teeth. It rattled around in my head when I ...

Re: 22-FEB-2023 DA42 crash in Slovakia (Europe)
I am very nervous about pulling the power on my way down because of the chance that I will have the propellers driving the engine. Something about being on the backside of the gears and teeth being chewed off?

Re: 22-FEB-2023 DA42 crash in Slovakia (Europe)
If I need to descend faster than 500fpm (usually I am descending from higher altitudes at 300fpm due to sensitive-ear passengers), I toss out the gear. They are a nice speed break. I am 74% power from cruise-climb to entering the pattern.

If you were doing a go around you wouldn't get to stop and add electric rudder trim, so do you just use the rudder pedals? Could you be a little gentle with the application of power?

Instead of putting in batteries I wonder what would happen if you just completed the circuit. Tin foil?

Re: AI settles it: XLS vs. NG!
It is vital that we know what the tool we are using is doing. The "A.I." everyone is trotting out is nothing more than a tuned Large Language Model. It is much better if you append "would sound like" onto your queries. "What would it sound like if you wrote something compari...

Re: Quick Tip: Pop-up IFR Clearance
California is amazing at this. I have had less luck on the east coast. Middle of the country seems to be very hit-or-miss. Desert environs seem happier about it. (New York Approach was salty about it, even though I had filed and elected NOT to get my clearance, so it was all in the system and I was ...
