Re: Help!!! Prop Strike questions for a Diamond DA40

First and foremost, did the event meet the definition of a prop strike as stated in the AD? So far your description doesn't seem to meet that definition. What kind of pylon was it? It was a rubber cone similar to the one seen here: https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-21634LIME/Traffic-Cones-and-...

Re: Help!!! Prop Strike questions for a Diamond DA40

Once upon a time the Lycoming SB would reference just checking things accessible by opening up the accessory case. The new version has an entire engine teardown. Look at all the things they demand to be done.

Re: Help!!! Prop Strike questions for a Diamond DA40

The 2016 SB revision (I hadn't looked at that before) has this amazingly broad definition of e propeller strike, which includes this: Any incident, whether or not the engine is operating, where repair of the propeller is necessary What constitutes "repair"??? The SB does not include the ex...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety

When Nashville was mentioned I thought it was about this accident (last week, departure to IMC): https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/352204 I see no mention in this of IMC. The fatal leg was from Kentucky and reported engine problems and crashed near the cleared airport. There seems to be some dis...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety

Quoting witnesses: The conditions at the airport at the time of the crash included overcast clouds at 1,200 feet, 1 ¾ miles visibility in light snow and gusting winds, the report says. Two witnesses who watched the plane depart told investigators that it did so during a period of heavy snowfall, ac...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety

Say what you will about the Austro. But the large displacement Continentals are no paragons of reliability. It seems the most common reason for successfully deploying the CAPS has been SR22 engine failures. Causes unknown, of course. Two of these this week. One near Seattle, another in Northern Cali...

Re: DA50 vs The World

It wasn’t my intention to get into the interminable arguments about Cirrus safety or lack thereof. What should be obvious is that of the eight fatal accidents attempts to use the chute to save the day were beyond the capabilities of the technology. That feeling of comfort is not without qualificatio...

Re: DA62 USB Ports

The Stratus USB I had installed (on the avionics bus) some years back is dual USB-A ports. Not a lot of output but sufficient to operate and fully charge my Stratus 3 and slowly recharge my iPad Pro 11. These are both perfectly acceptable. Unless the iPad started at 100% I always land with more char...
