Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition

Rich - My A&P has now found a 1/8 barb in the shop's inventory. It's a couple of thousandths larger than a #60 drill bit hole, which he think's is a negligible difference. I think we'll go with that. We've been following Mark's excellent guide to installation. Will make sure the line is not kink...

Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition

Steve, Rich- I'm sort of torn between the two approaches. My newly minted A&P is reluctant to put a T fitting in the MP line to the VM1000, but he's also wants to make sure the barb is correct. He's checking their supplies. Hopefully, the shop will have something. Thanks for your help. Bernie

Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition

My Surefly is being installed today replacing the Right Mag. Mechanic was a little unsure about the MP lines. Are we correct that the MP line from the Surefly is connected to Cylinder #3 while the MP line from cylinder #4 to the firewall through to the VM 1000 remains as is?
Thanks. Bernie

Re: Dillon's Aviation, Greenville, NC

Stuart has done a lot of Diamond-specific work on my DA40. In my experience he's been very reasonable and done a good job.

Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition

I reviewed all of this thread, which I should done initially. As Steve mentioned, it looks like you simply have to connect the tach sensor to the remaining Slick Start mag. Thanks. Bernie

Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition

Surefly tech support told me that if it is a magnetic sensor, it has to be "converted." However, so long as the tach sensor is on Slick mag (not the Surefly), it still works, correct? Thanks. Bernie

Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition

I've purchased a Surefly SIM4N and am clearing the way for the mechanic's install. I had a long conversation with Surefly technical support and got most of my questions answered. Most importantly, I have the REF F so ok there. However, one thing Surefly asks is whether the engine monitor has a magne...

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?

Thanks. My sense from talking to the Garmin Certification head is that Garmin does the flight certification. He stressed the need for a volunteer to offer up their aircraft for a extended period of time.

Re: No plans for Diamond GFC 500 autopilot?

Paul- So if I understand correctly, for the DA40, which does not have or require a yaw damper, installing the GFC500 servos is mainly a matter of using a different mounting bracket and different servos? If so, then installing a GFC 500 in a traditional gauge DA40 should not be overly difficult. Bernie
