Re: What to do if strobe light is inop
My mech says if the bulb is inop, you can just replace the bulb. So I took the wingtip off and ran into another obstacle - this yellowish plastic that covers just about the entire wingtip opening. Seems to be molded in - started unscrewing the screws thinking that might remove it, but then decided ...

Re: What to do if strobe light is inop
This post has me motivated to change out my strobe/position lights in wing tips with leds. Do folks have opinions on Aeroleds pulsar vs others? Rich said something about Orions. Comparison thoughts? The Orions are Whelen Orion 600. They are a direct replacement for the A600, except that the tube in...

Re: What is this pipe/tube and that oil in it?
Steve is correct about that fuel drain hose but if you have the Powerflow part of the installation requires a bit of modification to the drain. Further, it looks like you have the nose gear strut fairing installed. I speculate this might also require rerouting of the line, resulting in this length o...

Re: What is this pipe/tube and that oil in it?
The large pipe is primarily the engine crankcase (and accessory case) breather outlet. When running, the crankcase receives some blow-by from the piston rings and this pressure is relieved to atmosphere. It contains water vapor which may condense on the inside of the pipe. There is also oil splashin...

Re: Callsign at untowered fields
I do not consider solely "looking out the window" as the gold standard. Yes, it's necessary to do so, especially when traffic gets close. But if you have ADS-B in you should not fail to include that tool as well. More than 80% of your surrounding airspace at any given time is not visible l...

Re: Callsign at untowered fields
I've had occasion to fly into the Arlington, WA EAA fly-in. This was back in the day when that was enough of a thing that a temporary control tower would be set up, manned by actual volunteer controllers. Phraseology of "<color>, <type>" was the officially sanctioned phraseology put in the...

Re: Callsign at untowered fields
I've noticed this trend at my home airport. I always use my call sign. Some will say something "red and white cub". We often have several planes from a nearby flight school and they all use their call sign. This is a good thing because they're mostly all Cessnas. In addition, may of the st...

Re: What to do if strobe light is inop
By the way, I have two A600s and the power supplies. They are left over from converting to the Orions, if anyone needs some parts.

Re: What to do if strobe light is inop
I assume you have the original A600 units. The strobe lamp can be replaced but it's harder than the manual suggests. I've done it and it requires wingtip removal to get at the connector inside. Be careful when you remove the shell holding the strobe lamp in place, or the glass cover over the lamp w...
