Re: Possible Aspen installation
Asymptotically approaching completion. The Advanced Features micro-SD card has somehow been misplaced, so they need to order a replacement. Everything else is complete, including new W&B that takes my empty weight down to 1699 lb., right where I expected. One thing I was interested in was correl...

Re: New MSB40-091 for NLG inspection
The part number is undoubtedly stamped/bonded on it - somewhere.

Re: New MSB40-091 for NLG inspection
The original MSB 046 (no revision) dates from 2005 and had no reference to an updated part number. It also allowed for initial inspection that did not require dye penetrant. I don't have a copy of rev. 1 (2007) of that SB, but rev. 3 (2008) does require dye penetrant and references -1 and any subseq...

Re: Who do you use for insurance? Ours just doubled
Try Avemco. They go direct so no broker fees are added. Also, as the market price has actually gone up on used replacement Stars, they actually increased my hull value from the previous year without me even asking them to do so, and at the same time, the premium was reduced by several hundred dolla...

Re: DIAMOND FLYIN
I'll be calling around a bit probably Tuesday to see about ins and outs for the Denver environs. I'm thinking some weekend in mid-late July. Some stuff I'll check into: 1. See if we could arrange something like a BBQ catered at the field on one night. 2. What other things might be going one? Possibl...

Re: Alternator issue?
Talking about the battery (minor thread drift): It's difficult to know what the operating temperature of the battery is. Diamond did go to the trouble of providing a cooling/venting air ducts to the battery case and alternator. It's hard to know how effective that is, but in flight it is forcing ou...

Re: SureFly Electronic Ignition
Mark, thanks for the info. I'm going to go out on a limb here and relate the Surefly voltage issue to the problem Arnaud has been having. We get short-duration spikes as a regular occurrence that affect the Surefly, but then it becomes a real problem apart from the SF. The kicker was when Arnaud rep...

Re: Pinch Hitter
My wife has been flying with me for 40 years and almost 19 in our DA40, including hours traveling to Illinois, Colorado, Canada, and around the NW. So she's observed all kinds of situations and procedures hundreds of times. So the main task is to get her to be reasonably comfortable performing those...

Re: Pinch Hitter
My wife signed up for a Pinch Hitter course back in 2005. After a few hours in the air, she said I can do this. So she went on to get her PPL, Instrument Rating and Advanced Ground Instructor ticket. Then together, we both received training in CRM protocols which we employ together on every flight....
