Customs duties for maintenance?
Are customs duties due for maintenance out side the USA? If so what would be taxed? Parts or labor?
I called the cbp and they weren’t sure.
Finally ready to bring my airplane home and I don’t want any snags in customs at KBLI.

Re: Shop chopped up my nose gear!
The original a&p working on the airplane said it was safe to fly with the corrosion on the pivot surface and the scoring on the bolt. The shop owner went out of his way to convince the IA not to sign off the plane until I had replaced the leg. He even emailed him photos. The plan was to do the g...

Re: Borescope
Is that pitting a reflection in The second photo?
Compression?
Hrs on the engine?
You can clearly see the cross hatching still on the cylinder walls.

Re: Incompetent shop vs nose gear leg
Rich, have you noticed any wear marks on the bolt?
The bolt that holds on the nose gear fork?
The washers somehow were cutting into the bolt. This is obviously an issue that diamond needs to address.
I’d like to know what grease they are using to prevent corrosion.

Re: Shop chopped up my nose gear!
The only two places the gear leg attaches are the pivot and damper. It appears it would be very easy to just cut the bolt for the damper to free the front attachment point. To free the pivot you would just cut next to the nlg pivot. Can anyone see any reason why they would have cut the strut where t...

Incompetent shop vs nose gear leg
Airplane is at Safari express in Canada for annual inspection. The shop wanted to replace the NLG due to corrosion and washer wear marks on the fork bolt. Obviously the bolt has looked like this for years. I can’t find any evidence of the bolt breaking due to washer wear or corrosion. I agreed to re...

Shop chopped up my nose gear!
Airplane is in for its annual at Safari express. The shop claimed the nose gear leg needed to be replaced due to washer wear marks on the fork bolt. I checked accident reports, called diamond and I can find no example of the bolt breaking because of washer wear on the both that attaches the fork. Di...

Re: Hoffman prop overhaul?
Why don’t they have parts to build you a new prop?
You should contact Rotech and Lockwood aero and ask what constant speed props go on a 912. Per Krea Ellis and others we are allowed to improvise if the genuine part is not available.
