Re: Stuck in grass
I've always kept mine 5-7psi above the recommended pressure. I had a tire go on a rental DA40 at Palo Alto several years ago that nearly put me into the grass. I'd rather be a bit over than under. I've heard that rupture pressure on most tire/tube combos is above 150psi which would take a REALLY ha...

Re: AeroShell Grease Shortage
Cleveland recommends Mobil SHC-100 now which should be available.
If you can’t find Aeroshell 5 or 6, there is a Nyco grease now being used by Hartzell, but they can’t be mixed - so you have to remove the old Aeroshell grease. Not very practical, I know.

Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A
Highly recommend Penn Yan. Oldest engine overhaul facility in the Country. They have IRAN’d both of my “new” engines for the experimental RV’s I’ve built. Great folks to work with and highly experienced. Like everyone, parts availability can be a challenge, but PYA has a lot of resources to pull from.

Re: Fatal UT accident appears to be DA40
Dan Gryder jumps too quickly to "I KNOW what happened" for my taste. He recently had to apologize to the family of a pilot who died in an accident and he said she was below minimums on the approach (I don't believe he had any solid evidence for that). Dan Gryder was arrested in Griffin, G...

Re: Aileron friction?
I think you should replace the bolts as well. If they were tightened so much as to bind up the pushrods and bearings, they may have been weakened. AN3 bolt torque is surprisingly low (like 20-25 lb-in, plus the drag of the nyloc). I also suggest that you try to source the bearings from Aircraft Spru...

Re: Help trim stick in full nose down position
My uneducated guess would be to first check the trim switch. If the actuator is working, it might be a bad contact on the switch. Wiring would be next (not sure if there a separate grounds for the nose up and nose down circuits, but a bad ground would cause your symptoms). The A1 IPC does not show t...

Re: new XLT
With an XLT $30K less than an Austro powered NG and the Austro now a TBR engine (that apparently costs $55K plus labor), I'm curious where the benefit(s) is/are of the much heavier, much more expensive Austro. Yes, I know the Austro is smooth running, fuel efficient and easy to start, but given all ...

Re: Future Pilot?
Here is what we decided to do with our DA20-A1. We really didn’t want it being crated up and shipped to Europe. As Don said, promoting aviation to young folks is near and dear to our hearts. https://www.firstcoastnews.com/article/news/local/class-in-nassau-county-teaching-students-how-to-take-flight...

Re: DA40NG Coolant Leak and ECU A Failure
Also, those are in-flight engine failure ACCIDENTS. That means there can be any number of in-flight engine failures without an accident that they are not counting. Those are more of what I am interested in, since *I* am the weak link the moment the engine fails. 1,800 hours on our IO-360. One elect...
