Re: 22-FEB-2023 DA42 crash in Slovakia (Europe)
People are dying in training that is supposed to be training them how to avoid dying. Something is wrong here, and it's not necessarily the CFIs, DPEs, their clients, or the airplane. Screenshot 2023-02-23 at 8.20.20 PM.png I'm sure those of you with DA42's or 62's will disagree - but as an outside...

Re: Recently ordered a DA40NG !
You may lose FADEC but you also lose an engine with questionable reliability, a lot of extra weight and a whole bunch of potentially expensive MSB’s. In return you get an old technology engine that is virtually bulletproof, burns more of a more expensive fuel, isn’t as smooth - but can be worked on ...

Re: IO-390 at TBO time
It's not as simple as just bolting on the IO-390 when you remove the IO-360. The IO-390 is an angle valve engine, different dimensionally and is a bit heavier than the 360. The 390 seems to run cooler CHT's, but higher oil temps - so a possible oil cooler redesign would be required (along with a dif...

Re: Rotax to Continental IO 240B conversion
Here are my thoughts. The A1 and C1 are very different airplanes. Research some of the articles on the differences. Wing, tail, landing gear, firewall forward. Converting to experimental after spending a boatload on a conversion is also less than desirable. The airplane will be worth little to nothi...

According to the experimental G3X team at Garmin, the database manager issue for Mac OS will be resolved soon. He did not define "soon".

Re: Best cabin cover?
I know it’s a bit of a drive from downtown, but there are a couple of rows of hangars being built at KCCO - Newnan-Coweta County. I know the folks building them from the experimental community, so if you are interested, send me an email. They are building them under contract I think on a cost plus b...

Re: Oil filter availability
If you fly often and do frequent oil changes, there are some benefits to using the PMA’d Challenger permanent oil filters (manufactured by K&P). The elements last 5 years, are easily cleaned and do not need to be cut open like the throwaway style. Yes they are expensive, but the Champions and Te...

Re: Advise on New DA40 XLT Configuration
I co-owned an earlier DA-40 with the three bladed MT and a later one with the Hartzell wide chord composite. The Hartzell was a more durable prop operating off our grass strip. The wide chords provided a lot more drag when desired to slow down. It is a true composite prop (carbon fiber and Kevlar wi...

Re: Owner maintenance and brake pads
Generally, preventative maintenance can be done by the owner. Specifically, refer to FAR Part 43, Appendix A, Paragraph C for a complete list.
