Re: Gps as DME for non published waypoint during ILS
Great post Chris! A "saying" to remember this is " Lights and Color " To descend below DA you need "lights" (approach lighting system) and to go below the last 100' (above TZE), you need "color" (ie. - red lights - the runway threshold area) as a MINIMUM. Also...

Re: Various metrics
The diesel high pressure fuel pump will not be happy, nor will your wallet when you have to repair/replace the pump. This goes along with the AFM saying NOT to shut down the engines with the "fuel cutoff"! Section 4 - Normal Operating Procedures - Shut Down CAUTION Do not shut down an engi...

Re: Kap 140 shutting off when cold
How cold is "cold"? Our DA42 (it has a KAP140 also) flew a lot in this Michigan winter and it was COLD - a couple of times the outside temp at startup and throughout the flight was 5 deg F or less. Fourtunately, it started out in a "heated" (30-35 deg) hangar but was exposed to t...

Re: Weather Radar or Satellite link?
I've flown a number of trips through the ICZ in B767ERs - I believe radar is a "must have" for those ops, along with knowing how to use your radar "tilt"! Look for those radar shadows and AVOID anywhere near them! As far as "stormscopes" go, there is plenty of weather d...

Re: Potential new member
FWIW... I, too, was initially declined membership before I became "committed", on the other hand, I do think that when someone who is seriously looking to commit seeks membership, they should, at least, be allowed a "provisional" membership for a period (3-4 months???) of time ....

Re: Training market: Diamond or Cirrus?
When I "demo'ed" the TTx last summer, the demo guy told me it was a FAST, "2 people + bags" plane. Carry fuel to go much of a distance and that was it. The G3000 avionics were great and the plane was fun to fly and comfortable. At the end of the demo we sat down to look through t...

Re: DA42 v Baron
I looked at TTx, SR22T, Malibu, DA62 and B58 in the last year......ended up ordering the DA62 (hopefully it gets here in June)......pricey, but I plan to have it a long time! AND it was the best fit for my mission!
