Re: Quick Tip: Pop-up IFR Clearance
Just a reminder: yes, cell service is spotty aloft... however, from what I've read and from my personal experience, the probability of getting enough data connection for a short TEXT message (e.g. to File a Flight Plan) is way better than getting enough for voice connection (ATIS or phone call). I'...

Re: Quick Tip: Pop-up IFR Clearance
Wayne, do you consider a "pop-up clearance" the same as "picking up a [filed] clearance in the air" the same thing? I've considered these two different things. Paul, I totally agree with the distinction. Departing VFR and soon thereafter picking up an already-filed clearance in ...

Re: Quick Tip: Pop-up IFR Clearance
At non-towered airports in MN I’ve waited on the ground for as long as 10 min for a clearance. 10 minutes to get and read back the Clearance… or 10 minutes for the Release? In the hinterland I’ve had good luck telephoning on the ground (ForeFlight lists the phone numbers for Clearance Delivery) and...

Re: ForeFlight DA40NG performance profile - descent
@steve77, it's fixed now because you found the cause and took the initiative to report it to ForeFlight.
Nicely done. Thanks!

Re: ForeFlight DA40NG performance profile - descent
Wow, ForeFlight support was awesome. After a few prompt email responses, they fixed the After-TOD descent TAS problem on both the DA40-180 and DA40 XLS.

Not fixed in 15.7.1 for my DA40-180… see navlog above.

Re: DMMS
What I've found for the stall speeds of the DA40-180:
Vs1 (stall, clean) = 52 KIAS
Vso (stall, in landing configuration) = 49 KIAS
Would give DMMS (per David's x1.404) = 1.404 x 52 = 73 KIAS
... which is conveniently the same as full gross Best Glide.
