Re: Looking for recommendations South-East US
Not sure what exactly you're looking for, but Tangier Island (KTGI) is a local favorite in Virginia. It's a step back into the past to say the least. I'd also try to drop by First Flight (KFFA) (make sure you're brushed up on direct x-wind of the oceans), as well as Ocracoke Island (W95). Elizabeth ...

Re: Garmin Nav Data specs
re: SDHC, it may be device dependent. re: Wombat, that's clever. It's probably safe to assume they're working with Garmin under NDA because what they're doing would require the ability to generate valid image checksums for the DRM the G1000 uses. You may find experimenting and playing around with th...

Re: Garmin Nav Data specs
I'd encourage you /not/ to even attempt what you're suggesting as it's a safety of flight issue and very tricky to get right. It's also far more involved than your initial post suggests. If I were you, I'd just get yourself a spare pair of 4GB Sandisk SD cards (not class 10, class 4 I believe) and w...

I recall this being announced earlier, but here's the latest news blurb: http://www.diamond-air.at/media-center/press-releases/news/article/maiden-flight-of-the-diamond-aircraft-dart-450.html Found the earlier posts: (12/2014) https://www.diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5106 https://www.di...

Re: Garmin Nav Data specs
The file format is not documented anywhere AFAIK. It have seen it reverse engineered. Depending on what you're looking for, the tools used to build Avare maps are freely available and can get you all of the data you're looking for. Or you can go straight to the FAA and parse their distributed files....

Re: Conver KAP 140 to GFC 700??
Regardless the price, it's good to know it's an option now. (It is an amazing AP. Not sure if it's 55k amazing, but make sure to check the market to see what resale is worth. There's a pretty big bump for WAAS and GFC.)

Re: Buying DA40 used in Flight School
Welcome! I'm sure you'll love the 40, they're amazing planes. With respect to buying one out of a flight school, think about how you flew a plane when you first started. Now think about that same type of behavior spread out over many, many hours a month. Yea. I'd get a REALLY good pre-buy (i.e., by ...

Re: Garmin G-1000 ADS-B solution?
Given your g1000 situation Cary another thing to consider would be the the little brother, the GTX-335R . It is 'out' only and is 3k / 3.8k for parts. I think it lacks the flightstream 110 features, so you wouldn't be able to link garmin pilot or foreflight to the g1000 for data input. (Given that i...
