Re: GWX75 is certified
I was unaware that the DA50 -- with an engine in the front of the fuselage, unlike Diamond twins -- had a location for mounting weather radar. But if you look at the GWX 75 MPEL diagram included in the Garmin G1000 NXi manual, it appears that radar emissions emanate from the right wing, perhaps prov...

Re: A/C runs for 1-2 minutes and stops
I recall that this behavior is what happened on my DA62.
It turned out that I needed a new 3rd alternator (which, BTW, is the same alternator that Diamond uses as the main (single) alternator for Lycoming DA40s). Unfortunately it cost me about $5K to have it replaced.

Re: Canada ADS-B Diversity Requirement
Just got an email from FlightPlan.com stating also the need to modify your ICAO flight plan for Canadian ADS-B, even if properly equipped: UPDATE YOUR ICAO SETTINGS TO MEET NAV CANADA ADS-B REQUIREMENT As of Aug. 10, 2023, NAV CANADA has implemented the mandate of ADS-B “Out” in Canadian Class A air...

Re: SW loader card for owners as backup
FWIW, I noticed that new Diamonds built by the Diamond Austria factory (including my DA42-VI and DA62) included a G1000/NXi software loader SDcard, but none of the planes I delivered from the Diamond Canada factory ever included one. Of course once the first software update becomes available, you're...

Re: Engine reliability
It's still hard to beat the quiet, smoothness, fuel economy, and ease of operation when flying behind Austro engine(s). So my pilot wife has dry leased hours on a DA40NG, allowing us to continue enjoying flight in an Austro-powered plane -- but without being an owner responsible for any of the poten...

Re: Engine reliability
Nice plane, but the MU2 requires a certain discipline to fly due to its very high wing loading, combined with roll spoilers instead of ailerons. Fortunately the special training the FAA mandates for the MU2 seems to have addressed the previously-high fatality rate: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pk...

Re: 1,800 Hr Inspection Costs
Because my DA42-VI N42DA (bought new in 2013) was only a year out of warranty in 2016, Austro was nice enough to cover the head replacement cost -- so I don't know how expensive it was. The right engine had developed an unstable RPM in cruise that (after the head was removed) was determined to have ...

Re: 1,800 Hr Inspection Costs
Yes, the AvWeb article you mentioned is correct: Austro is now building their own core engines since they used up their supply of Mercedes-Benz OM640 engines upon which the AE300/AE330 engines are based. Austro was forced to go back and find suppliers who could re-create parts used by older Mercedes...

Re: New fuel pump requires Prist below +5C
Flying a P&W PT6A-powered single-engine turboprop instead of a DA62, I'm now forced to use JetA+ with Prist: Outside temps at FL340 are as low as -54degC in the winter. But unfortunately this does limit where I can land and refuel, since multiple smaller airports (e.g., those with self-serve Jet...
