Angle of Attack
Has anyone installed or researched installing an AOA indicator on their DA40? If so, what equipment did you choose and how do you like it? I noticed that Spruce sells custom probe mounting plates for Cirrus. The probe replaces one of the wing inspection ports. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/in/...

Re: More performance?
I couldn't find a compression ratio on the IO-390 but if it gets you 210 hp with an 8.5:1 compression ratio so you can still burn Mogas, it would be an attractive choice at rebuild time. If you don't care about Mogas, a simpler and less expensive way to get 220-230 hp is via engine mods on your IO-3...

Re: Leading edge protection
I'm not certain about the regulatory issues but leading edge tape is commonplace on many aircraft. I have it on my Dakota and it has been through more than 30 annuals, including with some very picky IAs. Probably half of the low wing pilots along my strip of hangars use it. It is more popular in thi...

Re: Accidental flap selection
My wife did this two weeks ago with her purse strap (don't ask). I probably returned the switch before full deployment but not before my mind replayed an old video where a guy who lost elevator control landed nicely using power for pitch only, wondering if I could do the same. I inspected everything...

Re: G1000 is it up to date? Import Export FPL
And don't play with the G1000 without the engine or ground power, it takes 6 Amps and drains the battery quickly!!!! Aaaaarghhh... First £110 wasted on a battery removal and charge. You will see a discussion on battery maintenance and ground work in another thread. When I work on the G1000, I use a...

Re: Need help on charging the battery??
Rick, Your point hit me the one time I left a map light on a week or so and drained the battery. I put something like 100 hours on my Hobbs. So . . . the inference is that the oil pressure relay is NC and closes at a higher voltage than is required to keep the Hobbs ticking? Makes sense. An old Hobb...

Re: G1000 is it up to date? Import Export FPL
Graham, If you will PM me with your email, and I'll send you the manual. The latest OS software for Lycoming engines is 0321.22. I have 0369.13 (circa late 2007). I'm not familiar with your version (it probably has to do with your engine differences) but I can send you a PDF that outlines the differ...

Re: G1000 is it up to date? Import Export FPL
Graham, As far as the Garmin vs. Jeppesen question is concerned, most of the databases are the same. I use them both. One difference, and it may affect you if you have a 2005 IRGF magnetic field data file (current data is 2010 and it updates every five years), Jepp NavData will update your IRGF file...

Re: G1000 is it up to date? Import Export FPL
Graham, You will find some some real experts at DAN so I know you will eventually get on top of the G1000. I recommend starting with the System Maintenance and Field Update manuals you will find on the Wiki page (top center of this page). Several of us are working through issues. My best advice is d...
