Re: DA62 USB Ports

The problem with using iPad as a kneeboard is moving head down and up. In IMC when you’re cross checking approach plates it can be confusing if not dangerous. iPad in field of view (glare shield or attachment mounted) is much better solution for various reasons, cooling included. Where do you keep ...

Re: DA62 USB Ports

Canopy mounts that allow the air vent to cool the back of the iPad (or perhaps the kneeboard mounts with built-in fans) likely avoid this. I also use a Mini 6 as a kneeboard. I use the My Clip strap which leaves 90% of the iPad exposed to ambient air, but as Paul writes, direct sun will still cause...

Wouldn’t this engine need to be certified before being used in any EASA/TC/FAA certified airplane?

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement

What I find most annoying is the lack of transparency. We become aware of a catastrophic failure or other major problem, and then we wait. Maybe it was maintenance induced, like the intake manifold's on the 40NG, or badly wired ECU backups on the 62. Or, maybe it's a critical engine problem like the...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement

I'm by no means a manufacturing expert, but it's obvious to me that Mercedes was able to utilize modern statistical quality control practices when producing its high-volume car engines, whereas Austro cannot do this as a small volume "boutique" producer. 280+ engines affected suggests thi...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement

I wish Austro owners were due an explanation on the mishap for the cost and inconvenience caused. Agreed! Austro/Wanfeng has turned a great engine into an unreliable source of recurring ADs. I don't know if it's incompetence or cost cutting, but the last three ADs, all of which resulted in catastro...
