Re: Engine reliability

I’ll keep it short so not too much thread drift: last year I picked up an MU2 and put some TLC into it. Originally thought it’d be short term or even a flip but my folks seem to like it. Trying to make a few more changes to the panel (second G600TXI and moving some switches around for another 750) D...

Re: Engine reliability

Wow, so remind me again how great the Austro engines are? I guess the obvious question is - given all the issues you had with the Austros on the 42, why would you even consider the 62 with higher output out of basically the same engine? I get it. I’ve owned 3 Diamonds and loved how they flew - but ...

Re: DA50 Owners: PIREPS Appreciated!

Agree on the fuel/UL trade off. If a wet wing can eke out another 25-30 gallons, I think Diamond will be alright. Might have to come up with a good story about post-crash fire survivability though.

Anyone know if a higher “worldwide” gross weight model may come out?

Re: Engine reliability

I think we’ve put around 1900 hours or so on a 42VI and an early 62. Here’s my two cents: Maintenance seems just as risky as any other high performance piston engine but with less ubiquitous, and slower, support from Diamond. I had a gearbox fail nearly every 300 hours. Each side took turns at $9-10...

Re: DA50 Owners: PIREPS Appreciated!

Anyone have the scoop on where Diamond will add some more fuel capacity to the plane?

Re: DA62 oil consumption

Our 42VI used 1 quarts every 100 hour. Sometimes it needed 2. It was great. Slightly more oil consumption I think on hot, hot days (riding the coolant temp limit and seeing oil temps in the low 130s). We flew maybe 600 hours or so at 75% and then 1000 or so at 85%. No major difference on fuel burn. ...

Anyone made metal and had the engine live?

Our 62 has split time engines because of infant mortality. We’re in the shop to swap the timed out engine and an oil change on the other side ended up with a filter full of non ferrous metal. No other trends or signals to me while flying. The engine hasn’t been “talking” to me. Curious if anyone els...

Side by side drag race between DA42VI and DA62

Not sure if this has been done, but in the name of science, we conducted the experiment! Similar weights. If anything, more weight in the 42. Slightly more TKS on board, 2 people vs 1, but a little less fuel. Race starts around 0:50. Too lazy to edit. Used takeoff power/full throttle. ixAPb9MCpgE
