Re: Report: GA Sales Continue To Decline
The GAMA report doesn't show enough detail, but I heard that most sales of the DA42 are of the MPP model. Apparently. it's quieter and cheaper per hour to snoop with one of those than a helicopter. Sign of the times, but at least it's keeping Diamond ticking over.

Re: 150 hp Centurion now available for retrofit in Europe
If Diamond could swallow their pride, I'm sure they'd sell more DA40s in Europe by offering the Centurion 2.0s as a factory fitted option. For one thing, it would increase the load carrying capacity by 80 lbs. Thielert's original press release is here . It states some interesting facts to counter th...

150 hp Centurion now available for retrofit in Europe
According to ANN , the 150 hp Centurion engine is now EASA certified: EASA has certified the 155 hp Centurion 2.0s power pack for retrofit into the Diamond DA40 TDI. The engine can be installed as a direct replacement for the Centurion 1.7 or Centurion 2.0 (both 135 hp mills) under the DA40s existin...

Seriously though, forcing the front wheel to stay firmly on the ground at high speed is asking for trouble - even if it's just extra maintenance costs. There's a reason why we're tought to hold it off as long as possible after landing.

Re: wierd problem!
hold the nose entirely on the ground until 59 KIAS If I did that in my aircraft, it would be the only wheel on the ground at that speed! Why do anything so risky when the problem is easily fixed by tightening up the wheel pivot? Another symptom is the amount of rudder you need to hold in medium to ...

Re: Hand flying GPS approaches
Ah yes, I noticed that feature on the simulator, but it requires a more recent software update than Diamond have released for us DA40D owners. There are lots of other nice new features on the G1000 I'd like to have (eg. wind data and minimums on the PFD), but Diamond seem to want me to buy a DA40NG ...

Hand flying GPS approaches
Coming from a part of the world where ADF/NDB still rules  , I've not had the opportunity to try one of those new-fangled GPS approaches, but we now have one at my home airport. I've flown it using Garmin's DA40 G1000 simulator in TRK FPL+V mode and have concluded that it won't be easy to hand...

Re: Meeting with DIA
Thielert are making good profits and their future is looking a lot better than in 2008. I can't say I'm surprised, given that for the 5 year annual for my DA40 the ECU has to be inspected and I've been quoted €950 for an exchange unit, or €640 + costs to have my own one checked out, and €1100 for a...
