Re: DA40 2023 starter engaged uncommanded during flight
I don't see a fault in your nature. I fail to understand why people continue to spend this kind of money on Diamond products when there have been years of complaints regarding QC, product upgrades, Austro deficiencies, lack of communications, poor attitude of company towards customers, etc. Yes, the...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety
The G650 (and other multi-engine jets) are certified for 120, 180 or 208 minutes on a single engine so that was not a huge deal to overfly suitable airports to get to a maintenance facility. The Austro isn’t certified for that. Years ago, a British Airways B747-400 lost an engine leaving LAX and co...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety
While probably not violating any FAR’s, the pilot who overflew perfectly suitable airports with an engine out in a DA-42 was asking for trouble. I can only assume he didn’t declare an emergency, which was another mistake. In Part 121 operations, we were required to “land at the nearest suitable airp...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety
The salesman who sold my DA40 to us was in a DA42 over Santa Barbara and lost an engine. He turned around and flew back to Long Beach. I think that's flying over six perfectly good airports along the way. But it is nice to be back home when you know the plane might be sitting for a while. Not sure ...

Re: Need throttle or mixture cable for a DA40
I would check with the usual cable suppliers - Cablecraft, McFarlane, etc. With that part number, I doubt it's a Diamond produced part.

Re: Engine reliability
Back to the original thread topic, Austro maintenance experience on our DA62 and DA42 was one of the factors contributing to our decision to sell. When we bought our DA62 new in 2017, there were no requirements to replace the heads and fuel injectors every 900 hours, or to replace failed gearboxes ...

Re: Engine reliability
Wow, so remind me again how great the Austro engines are? I guess the obvious question is - given all the issues you had with the Austros on the 42, why would you even consider the 62 with higher output out of basically the same engine? I get it. I’ve owned 3 Diamonds and loved how they flew - but I...

Re: Engine reliability
I had 4 years of Cirrus ownership before moving to a new DA62. No matter how much I write here, I can’t describe how much better is to operate these Austro engines. The Cirrus was a nice airplane and I really like it, but I don’t miss those engines. It’s 2023 and people are still suffering to hot-s...

Re: DA-42 in-flight engine failure
They have removed the cowlings and inspect it visually. All looked OK. They didn't try to start it, but have downloaded the ECU data. It could also be fuel contamination and they will test the fuel. It was always refueled at major local airports. I don't know regarding reliability: all piston engin...
