Re: Flying from the Mid-Atlantic to the PNW, California, and back again

Re: N611VG crash in Virginia
Per FlightAware here was the cleared route that would have been picked up at the departure location and almost certainly programmed into the FMS: 0A9 PSK GVE SIE BRIGS Q439 SARDI CCC KISP The penultimate waypoint (CCC) and destination (KISP) create a course of 253 degrees. Project this to CCC KISP ...

Re: GP capture failure
That's by design on (almost?) all avionics to keep you alive. Same behavior for an ILS approach as well. It will only capture GS if LOC is active. Once you're locked in the final approach course, gently capture it from above. Don't just increase your VS. Slow down to increase your flight path ANGLE...

FlyingDocs to Bahía Tortugas - Part 2: Clinic & Return Stateside
We review our very successful clinic, and then take to the skies for the return stateside. Will we find fuel in San Felipe? Do the forecast thunderstorms materialize? Welcome aboard! Wayne, GeezerGeek Pilot
