Aspen IMC 3-Mayday & Real ATC -- in the Simulator

QhKTL7QkPPk Really, real ATC while flying the sim? In the final episode of this 3-part series we request a pop-up IFR clearance from a real professional controller (PilotEdge), declare an emergency, shoot the RNAV-F approach, and get our copilot/patient and passengers safely to Aspen. What are your...

Re: Aspen IMC 2-LOC & Missed -- in the Simulator

Dave... you are of course 100%+ correct (wish I had some real world time in your awesome bird). To be honest, I also slowed way down (albeit too slow) to give my mind time to manage the dive-and-drive stepdowns, as the GFC700 in the sim aircraft wasn't doing its great drive-and-dive for me. I will r...

Aspen IMC 2-LOC & Missed -- in the Simulator

_nj5claLtRk Ground contact, check… but can you see the runway environment? In part 2 of this short series we e-fly a Localizer approach into Aspen, with weather 3500’ overcast, visibility 2 miles reported. What are your experiences and opinions on shooting approaches in a home simulator? Is the geo...

Re: Corona Sim - Aspen IMC 1-Departure & Hold

Dave, thanks for the solid Hold at Waypoint instructions... I just confirmed that the function is not available in X-Plane 11.41 in either the C172/G1000 or the DA62.
Other than that and no Autopilot VNV, the DA62 in X-Plane is quite sweet.
All the best,
Wayne

Re: Corona Sim - Aspen IMC 1-Departure & Hold

Wayne: FYI, the Legacy G1000 (not NXi) you're flying (if a real DA62) runs GDU 15 software that includes user-defined holding patterns that can be autopilot-coupled. So you didn't have to fly the hold "old school" by setting the inbound course manually. It would be interesting to see if t...

Re: Home "VIRTUAL Refresher" Study??

Here's one source of ARTCC phone numbers (can't say how current it is kept):

Suggest loading this into the ForeFlight "Documents" area so that the list is available offline.

Re: Home "VIRTUAL Refresher" Study??

After a minor amount of thinking :) on John's lost comms question... I'd follow all the altitude and course (and squawking) logic that we learned in IFR training... then I'd, in this order: -- pull out my handheld radio, insert the battery pack, and give a few frequencies there a try (incl 121.5 for...

Re: Corona Sim - Aspen IMC 1-Departure & Hold

John, thanks for watching... and having now e-flown the DA62, I'm super envious of your awesome aircraft!
All the best,

Corona Sim - Aspen IMC 1-Departure & Hold

SvMXWeXkB_g Continuing our simulator adventures while sheltering, we do some instrument work -- as suggested by Carlo Felicione and admittedly much needed on my part -- while in IMC around Aspen CO (KASE). In this part 1 video we fly an instrument departure northwest bound and an ad-hoc hold, to be...

A Corona Sim-Challenge - Fly when you’re grounded

oksUYqrPQFQ Many of us are currently sheltering-in-place, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be doing some zero-risk flying, keeping our skills sharp, and maybe even generating some entertainment value. All it takes is a modest home simulator and the desire to e-travel. This short video is a challenge ...
