Re: Backlit Tail Number Placard
If you use the dimmer to turn up the led strip under the glare shield, you might be able to illuminate the tail number placard enough to read it, without messing too much with your night vision. You probably wouldn't need much, since the placard is right under the glare shield. I forget if it's the ...

Re: G1000 Nxi Phase II questions
Instead of PUSHing the small FMS knob to get the cursor, just TURN it (with no cursor present). You should get a list of pages in the first section. If you turn the larger knob, you can move between sections. This is similar behavior to the MFD navigation in regular mode.

DA42 Down in Schuylkill County, PA yesterday
Looks like a 2009 DA42 - N988JA - on a training flight with an instructor, student and passenger on board, made an emergency landing in a plowed field yesterday. Thankfully, everyone walked away - despite the plane ending up inverted in the field. Not enough information to even speculate on a cause ...

Re: RPM setting for training maneuvers
Same here - I use 2400 RPM for practicing maneuvers, and I've never had a CFI want any different. Except for takeoff and landing, I never move the prop control full-forward. Maybe you can point your CFI at the continuous MAX RPM limitation in the POH and insist on operating your aircraft within ...

Re: GAMI INJECTORS
I have owned two Lycoming DA40's over the years. The first one (a 2004) ran fine LOP on the stock injectors - the GAMI spread was very small. My second (a 2007) was very rough LOP on the stock injectors, so I installed the GAMIs and it made a huge difference. Whether or not it is worth it depends on ...

Re: Nose Gear Tension
It's the high end - the idea being that the slipstream that pushes the NLG off-center will no longer be able to move it above some tension. Based on the reports here, it seems to work for some, but not for others. In my case, tightening the nut to the high end of the tension range (I think it was 15 ...

Re: DA40-180 Oil Dipstick: Lycoming MSB 612
I stand corrected, then - I'll have to look closer at mine next time I'm at the airport! That would make more sense, that they'd put a part number on it somewhere...Rich wrote: Mon Feb 21, 2022 10:23 pmThe part number is stamped on the upper part of the dipstick. It is vertical. Re: DA40-180 Oil Dipstick: Lycoming MSB 612
Anthony,
I don't think there are part numbers on either dipstick, but it's pretty easy to tell. The OLD one has nearly linear spacing between the 4, 6, and 8-quart markings. The NEW one has much less space between the 4 and 6 marks than between the 6 and 8 marks. Also, on the OLD one, the 4-quart ...

Here's an interesting change in behavior with regard to email notifications.
Formerly the subject line would begin: Topic reply notification -
Since the upgrade it starts with: Reply in
But this is really curious:
