Re: Fuel filler cap locking tab direction?
I, too, worried about fuel cap orientation. Happy to report I've flown with fuel caps in every orientation (forwards, backwards, and either side) and I'm still here to tell you about it. It'll forever be one of those things for us to talk about Clearly we need to test all possible orientations to f...

Re: Delta Hawk DHK180
Chris—nothing electrical on the engine except the starter. Maybe you’re thinking of coolant loss. They claim partial power (around half?) possible with no coolant. I based my comment on their statement: The loss of aircraft electric power, a fuel pump, an injector, and even a turbocharger, generall...

Re: Delta Hawk DHK180
The Thielert history will make them more cautious, but if these get successfully adopted by other manufacturers first, I could see it happening eventually. DAI uses 3rd party (Continental) engine in DA50. Very true. And Lycoming in the DA40-XLT. I suppose I subconsiously put Lycoming and Continenta...

Re: Delta Hawk DHK180
I agree it looks really promising on paper. They claim it will continue running if electrical power is lost (though at a lower power setting, perhaps due to supercharger drop-out). Given the continuing manufacturing-related ADs at Austo, I wonder if Diamond woud consider going back to a third-party ...

Re: Dormant for 30 days
Said Diamond switched vendors on the bolts with introduction of the DA50. That seems odd since the DA50 doesn't even contain an Austro engine. But I suppose they may be trying to align suppliers for parts which are similar across the different models. Original Mercedes bolts were higher spec/qualit...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
Given that the majority of affected engines are in the newer -05xxx and -06xxx range, does this imply that the older engines were manufactured (by MB) to different specifications? Or was there perhaps a parts supplier change that occurred at some point, and the newer supplier provided screws which r...

Re: They're out there among us...
Fast forward a couple of years - he was flying (C130s I think) and was home on leave with few friends. His Dad owned a 172 (that the Marine had flown before numerous times). Took his friends up flying on a hot day and crashed and burned. They were a couple of hundred pounds over Max Gross, and the ...

Re: Austro engine reliability and safety
I found the report facinating, and it seemed pretty thorough to me. Although I also have very little prior exposure to these types of mechanical failure analyses. Based on the way the metallurgical changes (and resulting failure) were correlated with the position of the fuel injector, the conclusion...

Re: European MTOW vs. Canadiam MTOW
It's also an option on the DA62 for European customers who want to avoid additional IFR fees there, which is why the OP was asking about it.
