Re: My Champion Thin Wire plugs need replacing.
I replaced all my champion fine wire with tempest after testing resistance and finding the Champion all out of spec with way too high resistance. I only have about 500 hours on them. I expect to get over 1000. I lean to about 1.6-1.8 gph for taxi. I also cruise at least 50 LOP. No fouling problems.

Re: GNS data updating
I had my 430 non WAAS card go bad at the connectors. I asked my avionics shop tech and he said the connectors wear out all the time. They have a huge jar of old cards and was able to use one of them. Several friends use the bad elf wombat in conjunction with Jepp phone app to update cards (note you ...

Re: Rear seat locking pin mating plate replacement
These planes are designed to be repaired by anorexic midgets with arms twice as long as normal humans. You can easily unbolt back seat and pull it up or even rotate it to expose stuff under the seat like the flaps actuator assembly. Be prepared to swear a lot. If I rotate back seat or try to remove ...

Re: TO Indicator Light + Alternator
I had the field wire break on my alternator a few years back. Unbelievably flimsy small gauge wire. There is an excellent article by Mike Busch on trouble shooting as well as a videos. Google “mike Busch alternator troubleshoot” and you will find videos and articles. Also in his book, Engines.

I do the same as Rich. Pull to idle around 700 rpm. Then shut down is smooth otherwise some roughness.

Ok. I’m going to try it. Best glide on the Columbia is much faster, perhaps that is the reason.

Re: 100UL and Us
The problems in NW may be related to lack of fuel truck drivers and use by fire fighting aircraft. Apparently there is a huge shortage of drivers for ha arduous cargo

Re: Glide Ratio
There is absolutely no question that pulling the prop back extends your glide. Try it on a 180 power off landing. Start with the prop forward and then on short final, pull back all the way. You will see the difference. This is how many are taught to “cheat” on the commercial chkride if you look like...

Re: 100UL and Us
The GAMI 100ul is designed to be a drop in replacement for 100ll. Everyone should see them (GAMI) put an engine on the test cell and switch during the run from 100ll to 100ul and they are running the engine with parameters to encourage detonation. Runs exactly the same on 100ll as 100ul. They can ac...

Glide Ratio
I know the manual states that at best glide speed the DA40 glide ratio is 8.8 to 1. Does this assume you have pulled the prop back? If not, then our real glide ratio is better than 8.8 to 1. I can’t find anything in the manual on that. They do talk about this for the Columbia 400 which has a 13 to 1...
