Re: This year's Annual Inspection
I’m very impressed at forum members who rebuild their own tools including jacks. Soon you will be machining your own fasteners out of bar stock. .

Re: Flaps microswitch change
Ironically, I just replaced microswitch 2 which is the second one in from the pilots side of the plane today. We unbolted the rear passenger bench style seat and rotated it to the right side of the plane to obtain access to the switch base plate. I do have access panels but they don’t allow sufficie...

Re: New DA40 owner | First Plane | what are common mistakes?
Lou makes a good point. Many Diamond owners do not realize how well the DA40 slips. If you slip with full flaps, you will descend at 70 knots at over 1000 ft per minute. Certainly flying high approaches is the a good preparation for engine out situations. I routinely fly power off 180 s with only TO...

Re: New DA40 owner | First Plane | what are common mistakes?
I believe the 1000 hours is in the Mx manual. I have two blade Hartzell composite prop which has a really low clearance. I found out about disks at a Diamond service center. The flaps stuff is just personal preference. One less thing to worry about in a go around. I rarely use Flaps on take off. I p...

Re: New DA40 owner | First Plane | what are common mistakes?
Abe Didn’t know about this forum until a year after I bought plane. A great resource. 1. I ran powerlant by manual which is 100 degrees ROP. Now I run 50 degrees LOP. Do a Gami test. 2. I discovered WX two part glider polish and coating great stuff 3. Not immediately installing Powerflo which really...

Re: KAP140 coupled approach question
More. If you look at the regulations for ATC, AIM section 5.9, it states: 2. Paragraph 5-9-1-b: "For a precision approach, at an altitude not above the glideslope/glidepath or below the minimum glideslope intercept altitude specified on the approach procedure chart" this means that they ar...

Re: KAP140 coupled approach question
Rich is right that there is no obligation to keep you low, but I've flown probably over 50 LP approaches to different airports and I'm typically cleared to an IAF at the min altitude at that IAF. The 530W will create a GS using GPS information and the KAP 140 will fly it (as long as you first allow ...

Re: KAP140 coupled approach question
Ok, ATC procedures require that the approach intercept occur before the approach gate which starts one mile from the FAF. Given that a 3 degree approach is about 310 ft per mile, to vector you onto the approach course above the GS they have to leave you very high. Typically, I get vectored to an int...

Re: KAP140 coupled approach question
There was a question about putting the KAP 140 into ROL mode before intercepting the localizer. I have never done that and I do not understand what that achieves. When being vectored, you want to be in HDG mode with the segment of the approach you will intercept activated. When you get “maintain xxx...
