Re: Thoughts after 2 year of owning a DA40NG
AOPA's Mark Baker thinks MOSAIC will improve costs. I don't think it will help much for solo owners like us. I don't see that. Basically the sport pilot certificate exists to escape medical exam requirements. FWIW, as currently written the DA40 wouldn't fall under these expanded limitations due to ...

To mute my radios I just hit the "COM 3" button on the audio panel.

Note that they also suggest to check for metal in the oil filter. Ae the previous entries from the same plane? If so, that's worth examining.

Re: Questions about pitting in the camshaft
I reread the original post and realize I misread it. The indication of real trouble is not a bit of metal found in an oil analysis but the presence of iron/steel particlaes found in the oil filter. The latter is what I inferred. There is no mention one way or another about the oil filter having bee...

Re: Questions about pitting in the camshaft
Roller tappets are supposed to be an improvement. I think they are now standard on Lycomings. Instead of the tappets and lobes sliding across each other they roll.

Re: Questions about pitting in the camshaft
The way Lycomings are built examining the cam/followers requires cylinder removal at the least to get access. There won'y be any outward indications of this wear problem until it's extremely advanced. I've been through this. Inactivity is the culprit and this engine has seen plenty. I would do a co...

Re: Questions about pitting in the camshaft
You will have to remove multiple cylinders to inspect all six camshaft lobes. In my case it was only two of the six lobes. Some pictures after teardown:
