Re: Need help with DA42 purchasing decision

Thank you all for the quick replies! How reliable have the AE300 engines proven to perform? We live in a more rural area and the closest service center is a few states over. I do not know if this should be a concern. Thanks! Not terribly surprised that no one bothered to respond to your question. S...

Re: DA40 for time building to ATP

Common misconception that engines require a rebuild at TBO. It is not required for private Part 91 operations. Neighbor down the street has over 4000 hours on his IO-360-M1A powered DA40. Engine doesn't make metal and compressions are good. There are several paths to the 1500 hours. Not sure I would...

Re: DA20-A1 Engine Shock Mounts

John, Just so you know - Keoki is the instructor at the high school where we donated our Katana. He gave my son his first lesson in the Katana many years ago (my son is now a pilot at a major airline). Appreciate any help you can give him. Keoki is also a very experienced A&P. He repaired the Ka...

Re: Cleaning Wheel Pants

Aviation Simple Green/Simple Green Extreme works really well to clean grime off airplanes and is non-corrosive. Wash-Wax All is a great product too, but not nearly as aggressive for cleaning. I use both. As to the rust on the landing gear, I had that on the steel gear legs on our old DA20-A1. I can'...

Re: XLS or NG?

Ask the folks that recently changed their NG orders to XLT. To me, that says it all.

Re: Older legacy DA40 avionics upgrade options?

I tried to locate the G3X Touch AML, but couldn't find it. If the DA40 (non G1000) is on that list - a dual 10.6" installation on a DA40 would be an amazing upgrade. If you could also retrofit the G500 autopilot coupled with a GTN750Xi, you get the new Smart Glide feature (flies the airplane to...

Re: Shop chopped up my nose gear!

Maybe the shop saved you a very expensive landing like the just happened in the C1. If the other pilot had not been there to observe the nose wheel departing - the outcome could have been quite different for the solo pilot. I know you were unhappy with your maintenance shop, but in retrospect- they ...

Re: Discussion With Diamond Canada

Would you be happier if Diamond offered to refund your radar money and let you buy it later at the market price and pay additional installation costs? You could always sell your plane and return to the order queue once everything is 100% ready. It seems Diamond is attempting to be flexible, given t...

Re: Engine failure on Astro DA42-VI

Curious as to what happens with the current Austro piston problem - does the engine seize up and if so, how do you then feather the prop?

Re: 22-FEB-2023 DA42 crash in Slovakia (Europe)

People are dying in training that is supposed to be training them how to avoid dying. Something is wrong here, and it's not necessarily the CFIs, DPEs, their clients, or the airplane. Screenshot 2023-02-23 at 8.20.20 PM.png I'm sure those of you with DA42's or 62's will disagree - but as an outside...
