Re: Landing Light Performance
I still haven’t got the answers on EASA approval and European purchase availability. Earlier in this thread, the higher power ballast was installed using a 337 approval (single airplane, FSDO field approval). I didn't see any reference to an STC. That suggests that there isn't an EASA approval unle...

Re: Standby instruments
Nit clarification: The "horizon emergency battery" is 30V (10 lithium manganese batteries, 3 V, 1,300 mAh), so about the same voltage as the 28V alternator that usually powers the electroluminescent flood light and backup AI or SAM. The supply voltage spec for the MidContinent SAM is 10V-3...

Re: Standby instruments
In any of the Diamond diesels, the limitation to continued flight after complete primary battery exhaustion is the ECU backup battery. That's about 30 minutes under normal conditions, less time than the duration of the backup instrument batteries. With magneto ignition, it depends on fuel vs. the ba...

Re: Standby instruments
From the MidContinent website:
"SAVE THE DAY
SAM’s rechargeable, internal battery saves the day and keeps you flying in the event of electrical failure. You’ll have one hour of emergency power and the critical time you need to land safely."

Re: DA40NG - not frise type ailerons
It comes down to whether you consider the answer interesting or informative . What decision (and action selection) does the answer to this question inform, or is it just something interesting to know? By extending below the wing, the ailerons create form drag and reduce adverse yaw. However, this do...

Re: Wax On Wax Off
When cleaning plexiglass, the product mustn't contain ammonia. Plexus, Prist (not to be confused with FSII with the same name), or Zepp is specifically formulated to clean plexiglass. It's crucial to thoroughly wet the plexiglass with the cleaner and use the area of the microfiber cloth (never paper...

Re: DA40NG N907L forced landing on a highway
The loss of power was accompanied by a loss of oil pressure and dual engine control unit (ECU) failure . A better phrasing would have been "loss of oil pressure and a dual engine control unit (ECU) fail caution annunciation ." The current version suggests that the ECUs themselves failed w...

Re: Wax On Wax Off
I love the Aero Cosmetics line. Wash Wax All, Wash All Degreaser (for cleaning the underside), and the Wax All Ceramic. I also use the Klasse All-In-One product 3-4 times a year. We use the Wash Wax All after every flight. I use Plexus exclusively on the plexiglass canopy and windows. Meguar's Leath...
