Colin, :) , as we had just grabbed lunch in Truckee, we could stave off starvation for several weeks.

Re: IFR/VFR Truckee as Caravan with Levi (Part 1)

Russ, cool photo... to observe from the ground! -- having long since heeded the "in the mountains (or desert Southwest, or Florida, or whatever) get down by early afternoon" mantra.
Thanks,

VFR to San Jose Reid-Hillview with Levi (Part 2)

PnefKtTYvV0 After dropping off my aircraft in Truckee CA for its annual inspection, we jump in Levi’s 182 for a short hop to San Jose’s Reid-Hillview Airport. The typical warm summer day provides us with 8,600’ density altitude at field elevation, but the Skylane climbs quite decently and we enjoy ...

Colin, exactly! When I was based in Truckee and Carson City, and traveling out of the area... my rule was to be back home, landed, in the hangar by 1pm.
Thanks!

IFR/VFR Truckee as Caravan with Levi (Part 1)

3uAgj4gufPo IFR or IFF?... given a choice, I Fly Freeways. Good friend Levi is helping me shuttle our aircraft to Truckee CA for her annual inspection. A little IMC on climbout and then VFR to intercept Interstate 80 for a crossing of the northern Sierra Nevada. What are your strategies for crossin...

Re: IFR Van Nuys for Jack to Demo BATD (Full ATC)

Wayne, on your flight to Van Nuys it looked like you #3 EGT was much higher than the others even prior to the takeoff roll, any ideas why? And then on your departure that was not an issue. Just curious if you saw that as well and if so is that something normal? Andrew, good catch. Only on this flig...

Re: IFR Van Nuys for Jack to Demo BATD (Full ATC)

I bought the BATD and expect delivery in about 10 days. The BATD is about procedure practice, checklist integration, etc. The G1000 panel and simulation is close enough to my DA40NG and I'm not concerned that the IAS and throttle settings are not a perfect match my plane. Currency by flying approac...

IFR Van Nuys for Jack to Demo BATD (Full ATC)

413SRJdK6aA More fun in the marine layer, landing historic Van Nuys 16R, and time on an FAA-approved Basic Aviation Training Device. My good friend Jack, and SR22T pilot, is looking to purchase either a BATD (log-able for currency, but limited to generic aircraft) -or- a high-end Home Simulator (no...

LOL... I should have been more diplomatic and said "it's MY SoCal problem"... 3 times mis-stating Woodside (OSI) as Oceanside (OCN)... well, OSI looks like OceanSIde doesn't it?
