Re: Inset Map
.... On that day, the delay was far less than 15 minutes and I would guess it was less than 5 minutes.... That time stamp only reflects how long ago either Sirius/XM or ADSBIN sent out its most recent (already old) information. Sorry, I wasn't clear as to what I was referring to. I was not looking ...

Re: Inset Map
You're right that the data is not live, but it's not 15 minutes old either. But it pretty much is: In June 2012, the NTSB issued Safety Alert SA-017 (amended in December 2015), which asserted that cockpit imagery could be 15 to 20 minutes older than the posted time: https://www.ntsb.gov/safety/safe...

Re: Inset Map
I still remember a "mission statement" from 30+ years ago when I was in the USAF - "There is no peacetime mission that requires the penetration of a thunderstorm!" (note the word "peacetime"! - more YIKES) Well, there is one mission. Way back when I was in college, one...

Re: Recent reports of JetA Fuel Contamination
What's strange is that the fuel was contaminated with DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). That stuff is highly corrosive and it doesn't belong in any diesel fuel whether intended for aircraft or cars and trucks. It causes a lot of engine damage. There's tons of stuff on the internet about people getting it ...

Re: Inset Map
(There's a lot of information online about this, but the data is definitely NOT live. That's not anything like having radar. It has to be collated, stitched together compressed, and moved to the upload sites. So I think the moment you get it the US data is something like fifteen minutes old. With c...

Re: What is a "Stabilized Approach"? (both VFR and IFR)
I would be interested in what people think of my experiences in this area. My last single engine instructor that I had insisted on a stabilized approach for IFR and wanted no configuration changes after the FAF. Set the flaps, gear and throttle and then only minor throttle changes from there on out....

Re: Source of precipitation induced vibration found - antenna
Update on this item:
I learned that this is a warranty item and that Diamond is in the process of certifying a different antenna. The current one picks up a resonant frequency and eventually fails.

Re: New Waste Gate Controller AD for AE300
]I just had my annual done back in London and they informed me that the fix is now considered a terminating action by the FAA, no repeat 250 hours later. I wish this were true, but my check of the latest version of the AD on the FAA website says that it must still be performed every 250 hours; ther...

Re: New Waste Gate Controller AD for AE300
The good news is that according to Austro's latest Mandatory Service Bulletin MSB-E4-022/3, installation of the con-rod fail-safe bridge is considered a "terminating action" that no longer requires the entire waste gate controller to be replaced every 250 hours. See: http://austroengine.a...
