Re: Color fading on wings
This sure looks like remnants of a composite repair.

Re: Power off 180
For Commercial power off 180 degree spot landings, you have 3 tools in your "toolbox" to use: - when/where to put in more flaps - how steeply (longer vs. shorter path) to turn back to the runway - forward slips In a DA40 -- a low-drag plane that "really wants to fly" and "d...

Re: Power off 180
For Commercial single-engine maneuvers and the checkride, eyes mostly outside the cockpit are essential and preferred -- the opposite of when working on your Instrument Rating. After getting my IR, I really enjoyed working on my Commercial (single) because I could look outside again and learn to fly...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
I'm guessing that moving the SR airframe to the G3000 is a precursor to Cirrus introducing autoland on the SR22, since the Vision Jet, Piper M600, and TBM 960 with autoland all use the G3000. That would be interesting! Also means G8 should come with autothrottle, possibly fadec for the mixture cont...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
All you have to do is look at the SR22 G7 panel to see that it's based on the Garmin G3000 -- just like the Cirrus Vision Jet panel it emulates in order to facilitate customer transition from the SR22 to the jet. Cirrus flight deck marketing terminology: Perspective = Legacy G1000 (starting with 200...

Re: Power off 180
Thanks Dave, I had originally planned on doing something like this but then changed when another pilot who recently did his commercial and told me the slip was frowned upon because it showed you did not have complete control of the airplane. Were you using the slip only after you had deployed landi...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
Diamond is still unable to certify a subset of the G1000NXi (aka Perspectve+) features that were standard on Cirrus five years ago. It's worse than that. My DA62 was one of the first equipped with NXi in early 2017, when Garmin was advertising NXi features like Visual Approaches and SurfaceWatch fo...

Re: Low Time Insurance Brokers
Especially if they work for a Diamond distributor, aircraft sales brokers typically have pre-existing relationships with insurance brokers who understand Diamonds and/or have experience in working with low-time pilots. They may also have an idea of which insurance underwriters are more likely to ins...

Re: BestTugs B5 vs B8 for DA62
Russ, great pirep on getting the nose wheel up on the tug. I'd been looking at the EZ Load option and I think I'll go for it. If anyone has thoughts on other options on the BestTugs Bravo series (Lights, GPU/Jumpstart, Lazy Susan), that'd be interesting to hear and hopefully won't be too big of a t...
