Importing a DA40

Post by robbevra »

Hallo fellow pilots,
I'm new to this forum but  following it for some time, I'm a 42 year proud owner of a
DA20 Katana here in Belgium for 9 years already.  I love the Katana but i think it is time now to make an upgrade
to a DA40 prefering the XL serie. Does someone have a good advice for me about the import/ferry….
of a N-reg DA40 from the US?

Hey Rob,

Welcome to DAN! There is hardly anything I know about the process of registering a DA40 in Belgium but I can only recommend you not to containerize the plane . It takes longer and is a lot more complicated than people want to make you believe .I would always recommend to fly the plane, no matter what . With a good ferry pilot you won't even need to install ferry tanks. Best time of year is summer or the winter.

Welcome Rob,

yes ferry is possible, but there are of course some risks. Also finding a good plane in the US, you nedd somebody to have a look there and checking the planes out. This is a bit difficult from Europe.
check your PM ..... sent you an adress.

Welcome to the forum Rob.
I pm you a link to one for sale in Europe. I checked it before buying mine. The price seems fair.
I see your home base is Kiewit, this is a short grass strip. It will be hard to take off at MTOW. You might consider a Tundra which has stol capacities.
We are in Brustem, near Kiewit.
I wish you much fun hunting for your DA40 !
