KBWG Bowling Green Kentucky

Post by Gary »

I have used KBWG several times as a refueling site between Michigan and Alabama. KBWG is a respectable non-towered airport with 2 runways and a decent FBO, Co-Mar Aviation. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KBWG The last time we were there my wife and I decided to stay and check out the local area. There are two main areas of interest, Caves and Corvettes.

The GM Corvette assembly plant is just outside of the city and they give four tours daily Monday-Thursday. The tours cost about $7 and last an hour. I enjoyed the tour more than I expected. http://www.bowlinggreenassemblyplant.com/home.htm
The National Corvette Museum is near the factory but we did not stop due to time considerations.http://www.corvettemuseum.com/

Mammoth Cave National Park is a 45 minute drive from Bowling Green. http://www.nps.gov/maca/index.htm They have about 15 different cave tours that last from an hour to over 6 hours. Some of the tours require reservations. There are nice hiking trails in the park as well.

Bowling Green is not a very large city so the lodging and restaurant selection is a little limited but not too bad. We found a really good BBQ place but I can't remember the name or location. Rental cars are available at the FBO.
