The trip to do when in Sydney

Post by Robin »

My Colleagues is Sydney with the original DA 40 XLS to be landed in Australia have posted a flight report of what I think is the most amazing flight to do, perhaps in the whole of Australia.

Check out their flight on DAN flight report 121. Note the descent to 500', along the coast south of Sydney harbour heads. You have to do this to remain OCTA, above is the final approach for runway 27 Sydney international airport. Note the orbits to view the "coathanger" what locals call the Sydney harbour bridge.

Kai, starting planning now :D . Anyone else interested??

Cheers

Count me in! That looks like an awesome flight. My wife and I love Australia and visit whenever we can. We have been to Sydney several times, but it would be much cooler to see the harbour from the air.

BTW - it shows up as flight ID #138 for me, although the title bar reads #121.

Geesh, if I'd find someone to take care of my dog for a while, I'd be there already. Unfortunately, here in Thailand, it isn't easy to find qualified staff .....

Interestingly, you, ehemm sorry: your friend! descended to 500 ft in front of the shores to maintain a safe distance to the approaching traffic, avoid wake turbulence, etc. while maintaining a reasonable altitude in order not to get caught in the lines of a kite surfer yet being able to spot any details of the people on the beach.

Yep, that's the kind of flying I like! :D

Fellow Diamond pilots

If you do make it to Sydney you can hire our beautiful Diamond Star DA40 XLS which has all the good stuff including the Avidyne TAS 600 Active Traffic System, Garmin TAWS-B Terrain Awareness System, Jepp ChartView and Synthetic Vision.

Perfect for sight seeing around Sydney including the Sydney Harbour scenic route described by Robin or you can hire it for an extended trip to see a lot more of Australia.

Hiring is organised through Schofields Flying Club. Go to www.schofields-flying-club.com.au for details.

Cheers

Mark
