Jane is working, Robin is on holiday
Jane is working for 3 weeks, based in Whyalla South Australia. I had some leave owing, so I am acting as Jane's go getter.
Rather than fly commercially I have flown us over in the DA 40 XLS. We picked some icing on the way over as a cold front went through. Climbed out on top through the scattered cloud. We picked up light icing on the leading edge, the only thing I noted was a decrease of approx 6 Knots on our TAS.
We refueled at Horsham, a wheat sheep town in the Wimmera district of my home state Victoria. Nice club house, with tea, coffee and a microwave.
Trip report number 641.
Again I flew WOT - am impressed that the DA40 - VH JRZ now has a TAS of 145.

Refuelling at Whyalla - South Australia
I am keen to fly everyday whilst on holidays, and of course other days, but work gets in the way...
Fuel is a lot cheaper a short flight across St Vincents Gulf, at YPIR - Port Pirie. So a good excuse to go flying whilst Jane is at work.
A great club house, food and drinks available at Port Pirie.

Beautiful pictures, Robin - thanks for posting!
Maybe you can talk the Bishop into upgrading to a DA40? Better view of the Heavens... :-D

- The Royal Flying Doctor Service uses Pilatus PC 12s to do medical transfers and also flies out to do emergencies. Recently they closed a main outback highway after a car smash, the RFDS landed on the highway, then flew the patients back to Adelaide.

Re: Jane is working, Robin is on holiday - VH JRZ resting
Some photos of my DA 40 XLS on the edge of the outback.
Its very green at the moment, its winter and we have had lots of rain. The last 10 years have been very dry.
Cheers

Re: Jane is working, Robin is on holiday - A weekend away
Last weekend, we flew down to Port Lincoln - YPLC.
This is the tuna fish capital of the world. We had amazing seafood for dinner every meal . Tuna, king fish and of course Coffin Bay oysters.
I forgot to load the data card for the trip down, but you can see the trip back on DAN trip report number 647
Some pictures of the town of Port Lincoln follows.

Re: Jane is working, Robin flying Jane to a clinic
Jane had a clinic to do at Roxby Downs. This is an outback town built 5 years ago to service the Olympic Dam mine. Everything is new. I shall post some photos, as we have another clinic to do next Thursday.
See the trip reports 645 & 646 on DAN.
Woomera Airspace was active so we had to fly a dog leg into Olympic Dam - YOLD. Woomera is the testing range for the airforce and other agencies, they often have high speed scram rockets etc, huge areas are notam'ed from SFC to FL 060.
After a 10 hour day, we took off at night, pitch black, so rotated and straight onto instruments. I am very cautious of those night takeoffs into the pitch black.
We could see Whyalla, YWHA at night about 60 miles out.
Cheers

Re: Jane is working, Robin is on holiday so to Streaky Bay
Hello
Jane was in the clinic all day today, so I flew out to Streaky Bay, just for something to do. See trip reports 648 & 649.
Left the camera connector at the accomodation, so will post some pictures later.
Cheers

Re: Jane is working, Robin is on holiday
Hi Robin,
Thanks for the pics. Hoping to get down to Australia next year. My sister moved to Sydney a few years back and it is time for a visit. Thinking around Christmas next year to enjoy your summer and miss some of our winter. :-D
I have a few long dist trips coming up in Aug & Sept through northern Canada so hopefully I can post of few of those.
Cheers
