Re: Flying Videos
Hi Chris,
Yes I have considered these issues.
I first checked the 3M data sheet for the adhesive mount. The strength of the device is well over the force of the slip stream on the Drift Ghost given the small front surface of that cam.
I chose to install a tether for safety during the first flights.
We experienced a camera drop on the runway at EBLG a few month ago, which means closing the airport to "clean" the runway, nor did I want to hurt some one with a UFO (although a falling plane with a pilot inside wouldn't be much better).
The tether is short, so the cam would almost stay in place, far from flight control surfaces. There sure is a risk of hurting fixed surfaces though, which would cost far more than the price of the cam.
I also considered some other issues:
- weight balance, the cam weights 170 g but the moment lever is long;
- drag on the wrong side of the stab,
- aerodynamic interference with the trim,
- icing
- ...
I don't think these issues are a real threat.
I seldom use the cam, only when light weighed and in good weather conditions.

What a great video! It was really interesting to see your home airport and what a great hangar you have.
A terrific way to start 2015.
Cheers

Re: Flying Videos
I have to justify my toys, so here is another flying video using as many of them as I can. Enjoy.

Re: Flying Videos
Great video, Mark. And another documented example of the cocked nose wheel phenomenon. It's not obvious during flight from the camera angle, but notice at the landing (3:27) where the nose wheel snaps to the straight point, then you can tell how far right it was sitting during the flight. Also notice it remains straight at liftoff.

Re: Flying Videos
Been quite awhile since I put together a video, was sorting all my footage and came across an amazing flight (in my old DA40) that I never edited. Had to do something with it...enjoy!

Re: Flying Videos
I have SOOO much footage from my DA40 days. Nearing the end, but still trying to get it organized, pulling out cool clips and discarding the junk.
Here is another clip I came across that was pretty nice, that I long forgot about.
One wheeled touch 'n go!
Had about 10 landings filmed in light crosswinds, last one used approach flaps and flew low and slow...not sure how I pulled this off?
