First excursion to Lake Tahoe
The weather looked promising, so I decided to zip up to Lake Tahoe yesterday for my first visit. A couple that we've known for many years was able to come along. Fortunately the husband is quite handy with a camera.
As it turns out, conditions were *spectacular*. Visibility was essentially unlimited, and the air was smooth. Overall an incredibly delightful day!

Great pictures, even though some look scarey close to the mountain peaks!

Very nice! Just curious, you were able to carry 4? That's awesome!

What you don't see is the highway beneath us for many of those up-close photos. And as you can see from this AOPA flight planner profile view, you can glide a *long* way from the summit! This may also help explain my great interest in the supercharger. The dynamic range of the Sierras is remarkable. About 2 hrs south along the range, the highest (14,500') and lowest (-300') elevations in the continental US are within ~70 nm.carym wrote:Great pictures, even though some look scary close to the mountain peaks!

Re: First excursion to Lake Tahoe
My spouse could not come (and is now kicking herself...), so there were only three of us.bcocheran wrote:Very nice! Just curious, you were able to carry 4? That's awesome!
Our friends are light, so all of the weight issues are in the pilot's seat.
But if I'd been willing to get gas at TVL, all four of us could have made the trip and still had 1 hr reserves - at least when the weather is cool. I won't try a TVL summertime trip anywhere near gross until the supercharger is installed. The entire trip only burned 24 gallons, including unplanned (but delightful) excursions along the eastern side of the Sierras and around the perimeter of the lake.
