Today I was taking a scenic flight off the coast of Sydney when a controller came on the common area frequency and warned an f 18 would be flying along the coast at 500 ft.
Sure enough the TCAS warned of traffic and there it was.
Sorry about the shaky video.
The pilot was nice enough to rock his wings obviously appreciating the great view of a DA40 in flight!

Hi Andrew

Great experience Andrew!

Slightly disappointed that you were not able to fly in formation with him!

Cheers

Robin

I had a smiliar experience while flying in Switzerland about one year ago. It was one of my hardest flights ever with extreme turbulances, a cloudy day however with bits of rain, ugly. I was already pretty much stressed and truly flying with wet hands. All of a sudden this F18 was passing by without any information by ATC. Actually this was technically speaking not a problem at all, the F18 was not too close or whatever, but this unexpected aircraft passing by at a high speed really surpised me that much, I only saw all of a sudden a fast moving 'thing' coming from my right back side to my forward left side and was really shocked for a few seconds. I will never forget that day and that F18 ... I think this pilot will not even felt the turbulances I was dealing with, and also the headwind component that day of 52 (!) wasn't any issue for him most probably :)

Did you get a shot off with your 20mm mic switch? :-)
