I travel from North Carolina to New York about twice per year. I would like to fly up there some. Have any of you had any experience with fling into KISP? If so, how much trouble was it getting there through the Newark, La Guarida, and JFK air spaces? How much aggravation is it to get into Manhattan from the airport? Any more thoughts about issues that have not occurred to me will be helpful.
Thanks,
Tom Davis

I've never been to KISP but I'm pretty sure that KHPN is the best airport for visiting Manhattan in a DA40. The piston-friendly FBO (Million Air) will drive you to the train station in White Plains where the Express Metro North Railroad will take you to Grand Central Terminal with only one stop on the way. The FBO will happily come pick you up at the train station on your way back if you call them. I call them from the train and they're usually waiting for us when we come out of the station. Very convenient.
Going through that airspace is intense but straightforward if flying IFR or with flight following. If flying IFR, note that KHPN has a special departure procedure and several STARs that should be part of your flight plan.

I recommend KCDW. The UberX drivers have no problem finding it and everyone there is friendly.

I also agree with the CDW and HPN recommendations. Both are on the edge of the Bravo shelves so be mindful of the altitudes. HPN will have more jet traffic in my experience.

If going to Long Island, also check out Republic / KFGR. It's a huge GA airport and accessible via mass transit into the city via short cab ride.
Coming from NC, I would certainly recommend staying west of the city and using KCDW.
IFR routing around the city is a bit extravagant to get out to Long Island -- they would generally route you ~ from KBML area out over the water to keep you away from the JFK/LGA airspace.
HPN would likely route you around west and then way north (i.e near SAX or HUO) and then back over the sound for runway 34.
Good luck and safe flying!

Coming from the south on my way to KGON a few years ago, I was routed through the JFK VOR!
