The iPad does use cellular towers to improve GPS accuracy, but if there is no GPS signal that is moot and there aren't many cell towers in that area anway. Those GPS blackouts usually don't last very long.

140miles of upwind sailing means I assume this is a one day/overnight sail? Lots of shallow water and reefs on that trip. I suggest old school and following the lights on the east side of Andros which will be easier to see at night. There are also some fairly odd currents there circling Green Cay.

We always said the most dangerous thing on the boat was the calendar. Maybe a day earlier or later would be a better choice.
