Flying the Caribbean (Part 8) - to Exuma, Bahamas -- When Words Fail
When words fail… beauty speaks. Today we overfly the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, make a fuel stop in the Dominican Republic, and spend the night in the Exumas chain of the Bahamas.
Thoughts, questions, and suggestions? I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for your insight and enjoy the video!

Awesome videos Wayne! I recently bought the propellor filter attachment for my GoPro, and works really well so you may wish to check that out if you are going to continue putting us all the shame with these great posts.
Glad you enjoyed the Exumas. I was probably there at the same time, but sailing down the coast, not in the air but wishing I was...

Andrew, thanks for the kind words. I have mixed feelings about the prop filter, as I understand it darkens the video a touch. I've been pleased that the stock Hero 8 doesn't get the super weird detached prop look (like earlier cameras did), so I've held off for now getting the filter. Your thoughts pro/con?
Well, I was in the air looking down where you were and admiring the beautiful blue and turquoise waters of the Exumas. Stunning.

Wayne, I thought that might be the case as well, as it does seem a very dark lens. However, the actual video turned out such that I could not tell the difference and I have not done any editing to adjust the light intensity etc. I have an older GoPro than you, the Hero 4, but it seems to work just great. For the price, I think it's a great investment.
And yep, those waters, views and sunsets never get old. We have been there 3 times now. Always have a great time.

Wayne, attached is a quick, unedited clip using the prop filter attachment.

I have the Nflightcam prop filter and it does not fit on the Hero 8 (a new one for the Hero 8 is supposed to be under development). I returned my Hero 8 and bought a Hero 7.
With the Hero 7 mounted in the cockpit on the "roll bar", using 2.7k/24fps/Linear, the exposure is well balanced between the interior / panel and the view out the canopy.
The filter is just a neutral density filter which forces the shutter speed to a slower setting which allows the prop to blur.

Andrew, that is indeed a perfect fix for the prop stuff. Can you send me a link to the Filter you used?
Thanks,
Wayne

Re: Flying the Caribbean (Part 8) - to Exuma, Bahamas -- When Words Fail
I got the "Interior Kit" from Sporty's: it includes the mount, prop filter and cable to get the audio from intercom and ATC. $99 for all that seemed like OK value to me. (https://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/gopro ... r-kit.html)
I could not see the prop filter for the Hero 8 which is what I believe you have, but I would think there will be something out there...
