Flying Alaska 2021 (Part 1) - Planning

Post by waynemcc999 »

The three amigos -- Bill, Joe, Wayne -- are planning another flying adventure… to Alaska in August 2021. The first video in this series covers various aspects of our planning, including when to go, possible routes, locations to visit, trip calendar, and preparations. Should be great fun… welcome aboard! Thanks, Trevor, for watching and the kind words. And in Renton you're already a third of the way there... just form up on our flank and join us :) .

I sure hope this comes together for you guys Wayne! It will be a great trip.

Here is Mount Robson, highest in the Canadian Rockies at 12,982, earlier today returning from CYLW, to whet your appetite. Below 11,000' the smoke reduced vis to 10 SM max so we did not get a lot of great views.

Louis, sorry to see the fires also attacking the Canadian Rockies. Beautiful part of the world you fly in.
Thanks for the kind wishes,

A DA42 pilot on here did an Alaska trip and his posts link to his blog entries about it. Stunning stuff. And incredible adventure. Also sobering since they lost one of their pilots (and planes) in a mountain pass during the trip. This is no kidding around stuff up there. Weather, terrain, lack of supporting technology and services.

I look forward to these videos.

Wayne:

Spent a fair amount of time in Alaska when I was in the Navy (mostly the Aleutians). If your route includes Anchorage, you could stop at:

especially since the crew is without spouses...

 Steve, this crew is also very old, so not sure that kind of Alaskan bush fits the mission. Thanks though,
Wayne

"Very old" is a relative term...

You do a pretty good job shooting those instrument approaches...
